It seemed like the guitarist had skills (and bassist) but it was really tough to tell with the lead singer frat boy drowning everything out with screeches. When there are a total of 5-10 people out of 1K+ cheering for your band, I think that means you suck (that was the consensus of everyone around me groaning about how this band needs to get the hell off the stage).

are we really going to break out the "well, X sold more albums than Y, so X must be better" argument? if coheed played on the Unholy Alliance tour with Slayer, Lamb of God, and Mastodon, how many people do you think they would win over? probably about 5-10. it's no knock on dillinger to say that they didn't appeal to fans of a prog rock band. again, if you can't recognize the musicanship of DEP, then you're just not listening. there's plenty of bands that i dislike, but that i respect.

To top it off, the lead singer (during the finale) chucked the cymbals into his pianist's keyboard - way to go asshat. Somebody forgot to tell him that you will look cool breaking instruments only AFTER you're famous. Not after you're making immature mom jokes at the crowd for saying you suck and challenging them to a fight onstage. Seriously, I don't know why Coheed or even AFI would have these guys on tour with them, it was like emo metal white noise to me. I didn't hear one harmonizing melody in the entire set... but different strokes for different folks I suppose. ;)

if we're calling dillinger emo, then apparently the word has lost ALL of its original meaning. the first time i saw DEP, i got hit in the face by a flying shoe the moment they started into the first song. then puciano chucked a cymbal into the audience and climbed into the rafters. that's what happens at a dillinger show. it makes much more sense for a band that creates barely ordered chaos to break sh!t than it does for a famous band to break sh!t just because they're famous.

I lost all respect for DEP the moment the mom joke came out, I already hated their crap performance. If you can't take the heat, get outta the kitchen. If they were playing music, I couldn't tell. I'm sure they're going to a lot more comments like that for the rest of the tour. For example, take the Aug 5th show at Indianapolis:
"Coheed was great as always. Ill admit i was excited to see dillenger but they ended up sounding like fcking static turned up to 12. UGH oh well."

"To be honest, I love the Blood Brothers, and I also really like Poison the Welj, but The Dillinger Escape plan sucked so hard!...they were just awful! I wanted to put a gun to my head. Other than that, they show was sick!"
Link

From the show I went to, peeps said:
"Chiodos was OK, not into the screamo stuff though. Thst being said, I wanted to blow by brains out during Dillinger Escape Plan. That stuff was so annoying to me."

"Agreeing with PSG, Dillinger just wasn't my kind of band."

"Chiodos almost ruined the show, and DEP is overrated but not horrible."

"Though DEP [performance] felt like hours."

"the dillenger escape plan is possibly one of the worst bands i've ever heard. ever. and what was up with that yo mamma joke? is he seven years old? his muscles were probably restricting his brain."

"i saw your mom the other day carrying a pig under her arm and i asked where she got it and the pig said at the fair." what a complete dumbass.

DEP and A7X have this feud going on apparently....M. Shadows (lead singer of A7X) claimed that DEP was not music, just noise. The lead singer of DEP came back and was talking ****** about A7X. Well after seeing both bands with the 'Heed, I know where I stand there....hahaha. Wow - DEP sucks."

"A lot of you seem to not be liking DEP, and it's understandable, but you really can't judge them until hearing the recorded material. I love thier albums, but they were a hell of a let down live."

"I've gotta be honest, I've heard some of DEP's recorded material and I actually liked a lot of it. That's why I was a little confused when the band came out and the singer started screaming at the top of his lungs. Same with Chiodos."

"i couldn't hear ANY guitar whatsoever during DEP. but i did like that bassist. he was rocking the cut off short jean shorts, and the killer beard. that was pretty cool. the music was not."

"Wow, what a concert, well for 3 and coheed atleast. Chiodos' lead singer just stumbled around the stage and the band was not entertaining at all. DEP was the worst band I've seen live, and trust me, I've been to warped tour, I've seen a lot of bad bands live. Did anyone else find themselves hoping the speakers would fall and flatten DEP's singers roided out body when he was smashing the high hat? Whoops did I say that out loud?"
Link

Nah DEP isn't by definition EMO, but they sounded like angry screamo screeching frat boys mixed with static/white noise. In fact I bet anyone in the audience could have screeched like that on lead vocals and been paid X dollars to perform. Trust me dude, it was pure garbage, you'll just have to take my word on it even though those opinions are coming from mostly prog rock fans.

That's pretty much the only thing about C&C that turns me off, though, and the reason why I'll never listen to them. Rather unfortunate, but I'm picky about my vocals.
He sounds just like the guy from Rush, but you probably don't like them either. Welcome Home is a monster of a song and I think it even trumps Rush's best stuff.

thats why i hate them...they sound like a rush ripoff...but then again i hate rush too.

DEP plays some really complex stuff, they truly are amazing musicians. That said, I hate their music and I do have a tough time sitting through it at shows. The guys from the band are actually pretty cool. They opened for Thursday in a show out in NJ, and I met the lead singer...in a mosh pit with Thursday was playing. He's not a small dude ;).

And to the OP: People will probably be moshing, especially if the Dillinger fans are still there while Coheed is playing. If that bothers you, there are plenty of other places to stand in whatever venue you'll be in. Just don't stand in the pit, and you'll be free to mellow and rock out to the music in whatever manner you see fit.

ok, you're obviously missing the point of the "your mom" jokes. dillinger knows that a coheed/AFI/pop-punk/emo/etc hates them. the "your mom" jokes just instigate the audience further. for dillinger's fans, and the band themselves, it's hilarious. they're not out there trying to win over 15 year olds wearing white belts - they're out there to piss them off.

and again, to the uninitiated, dillinger sounds like complete noise - album or live. if you ever start to understand what they're doing, you'll realize they're one of the tightest most energetic live acts you can possibly find.

and as for all those quotes you provided - they're from a friggin Coheed fansite. what the fvck do you expect?? a dillinger fan site would have similarly scathing remarks for Coheed. try to not be so close-minded. it's possible to appreciate both Coheed and bands like Dillinger - i know i do.

okay, after seeing them live.. Dillenger as a band is good, if not really good... but i wont buy an album because i can't stand the lead singer. add some variation, better singing, and less screaming, and it'd be a lot better. the band plays really complex stuff but the lead singer kills anything they offer.

as for the show itself: damn it was great. i liked 3, chiodos was decent but on the verge of not that great, and dillenger got annoying because of the lead singer, i got to drowning him out and listening to the band itself.
coheed, however.... i'd have to say that was the best show I have ever been too. claudio was brilliant as always, however the drummer and bassist (mike, i think) were not present, in favor of some replacements, due to personal reasons (and claudio even went on to say the future of the band is unknown at the moment, but i need burning star IV vol 2 before they quit, but I also want another album after that so I can hear original lyrics that aren't attached to an overall story)...
welcome home came on, at this point the crowd begging for it as well.. and i got depressed, because as mentioned earlier, it was the second to last song. it's an amazing song, my favorite (along with the final cut), and they played it amazingly, the crowd loved it too. after that was the final cut, with about 4 minutes of vocals and 10 minutes or so of claudio and the bassist going at it. gave me an audiogasm me thinks lmao... then it was over, and i could have listened to them play it for an hour... favorite moments of the final cut were when claudio played above and behind his head, and when he brought out a violen bow and played the guitar using it... damn it sounded beautiful.
that concert will be in my head for a long time.

now my next concert i have to go to to complete my goal in life is seeing mars volta...

Glad you had a great time man. And hot dam, he used the violin bow to play, wow I feel ripped off now... :)

Was there any moshing? Pretty chill? And yeah, now you see what I mean about DEP.

oh he didn't break out a bow at the columbus show? aww im sorry, cuz it was amazing :D
and as far as moshing, there was quite a bit during chiodos and DEP, BUT not as much during coheed, it turned into more of a group jump-fest in which the entire front portion just grew into jumping, but slowly calmed down to simply chill or wave the horns in the air lol. i mellowed right behind the front groups so I didn't have to worry bout the scenesters.. that and the mosh got intense during DEP.. one kid got to flailing his fists randomly about. entertaining to watch lol
being a relatively small venue the front portion was relatively small so i was still close.

i dont have to get over the vocals because to me they mesh perfectly with the band. i love claudio's voice in this band. not every band could a voice like his work, but its perfectly mesh with coheed & cambria.

Welcome Home is one of my favorite songs of all time at the moment, let alone from Coheed. The Final Cut is an amazing piece, probably my favorite for the style they went after.

he did that at every show i've been to.

dep rules. you should buy their albums (i don't like the mike patton one, though). they changed lead singers a couple years ago. dmitri used to be their singer... now, it's greg (he's a really cool guy... i hung out with him and the rest of the band after their show in baltimore a year or so ago... one of my close friends gets lessons from chris pennie).

Hey destrekor there's some youtube vids up from your Toledo show... do a search for coheed and sort by Date Added. Here's a new vid someone put up from 2005 of The Final Cut, decent quality and it rocks. Text
