WAIT! WAIT! I'VE GOT IT! I'VE GOT IT!

What if..........

The coffee shop told them "Tits or GTFO"?

That works until a guy decides to do it. 🙁

Thats awefully polite for Brooklyn. I would have expected the sign to say "GET THE FUCK OUT!"
That part of Brooklyn is particularly pretentious. It's the kind of neighborhood trendy couples in their young 30s pay 2 million for an apartment for, mainly so they can say they like in Park Slope.

I've considered taking my laptop or netbook to a coffee shop and relaxing there for a while. However, my obstacles are:

- I don't like coffee (minimal issue, everyone offers more than just coffee)
- Both my home and office are more comfortable than a coffee shop
- I have to dress properly, shave and run something through my hair

I'm not pulling a holier than thou thing on people who actually do stick around in coffee shops, I just don't understand it. What about it makes it superior to just doing the same thing at home?

The change of scenery is nice. I could see someone wanting to get out of the house a bit, and do some surfing or work.

don't offer wi-fi if you're gonna bitch about people using it

A better solution would be to offer it with a hard data cap or time limit, like 1 hour or 20 MB, whatever comes first. Then you're cut off for the day.

That would be easy to do and get the people out of there in a reasonable amount of time. You could even have a nice little web page that comes up "we're sorry, but you're over your limit, please come back tomorrow as this services is for the convenience of all purchasing customers"

Good for them. Their business isn't your personal office to freeload all day on. If it's not crowded at all then don't see a problem with people staying and buying stuff. But if you're just loitering after buying a 4 dollar cup of coffee then GTFO so other customers and eat/sit.

Typical prices for broadband are $2 per day. So it doesn't make sense to buy an overpriced POS Starbucks coffee for $4 just to surf the Internet anyway.

Honestly I enjoy a starbucks coffee every now and then. However, the hipster d-bags sitting around on their laptops sipping a latte make me want to punch a baby jesus statue.

Should just rig something up that if you spend $5, you get 30 minutes of airtime. After that you gotta go buy something again.
If they want free internet, go to the library.

I hate you and everyone with your attitude. All this store owner has done is create a policy that will allow people to continue using his wifi in a reasonable way that doesn't inconvenience customers who have recently purchased something.

That's awesome. I've always wondered what benefit there could possibly be to bringing your laptop to a fucking Starbucks. Especially hipster douche bags with their Macs.

To attempt to attract smelly chics that don't shower in a desperate plea for acceptance and human attention?

I'm glad to hear about this. I hate going to places to see all of the douche nozzles out en masse "socializing" on the intraweb without apparently purchasing any food or beverage.

Never really understood the appeal of spending hours working in a coffee shop. Steve Gibson always talks about working in Starbucks on his Security Now podcast - he says he gets more done because there are less distractions than at home. I guess I could see that possibility, though the Internet can be as distracting as anything. He even brings his big clicky keyboard with him. Not a Model M, some other type that I can't recall.

yea thats just weird. maybe if coffee shops had cubical walls, but they don't. there are MORE distractions if anything.

ROFL. Yeah anyone that walks around in sports jerseys is a dumbass.

I like to go to this little independent coffee shop in Palm Springs for a cappuccino and to use their free wi-fi. I'll sit there for 15-20 minutes checking e-mail, getting updates on F1, updating my fantasy league etc and then I'll leave after I finish my coffee.
