Wait, is it just me? :p

Goal - 5.1Ghz (I'm ambitious) :sunglasses:

Build:
  • 8700k Retail - No delid (soon ;))
  • Asus Hero X Z370
  • 16GB (2x8) G.Skill Trident Z 4266 C19
  • Kraken X62 AIO
First boot - no BIOS changes or OC, purely default and the Hero locks all cores at 4.7.

More to follow:

5.2Ghz - literally changed the multi to 52 and left the rest on auto.

Disregard the time, Windows needs to correct itself

How about an AVX offset of 4?

I know the server processors can operate the cores at different frequencies, depending on the type of SIMD used. Does mixed frequency also apply to the client processors?

Nice. Keep the data coming OP. I think we are going to see some 5.3Ghz...maybe even 5.4GHz delidded chips out there.

Great Purchase dude! I have to wait a few weeks for my 8700k to arrive. I just want 5ghz. This chip is unbelievable. Maybe we will see an 8 core extreme edition soon? :) Intel has performed magic with 14++.. It looked like their 14nm process was a disaster and they have instead turned it into the best process currently in mainstream chip production. I'm curious if we might see 14nm +++ next year if 10nm is delayed.

Dude you're the only one on the forums with a chip! This is a straight up braggart thread. This is a straight up haves and have nots thread. This is a straight up kick-me-in-the-teeth cause Newegg has no stock thread. You're like the only dude outside of reviewers with a chip thread.

What is the default cache/ring frequency? Can it be set 1:1 to core frequency?

Pretty easy to see if it's throttling. In HWinfo Set your polling speed to highest setting, and reset the clock just after you start cinebench run.

looking at your IBT, looks like it might have been throttling there also? Look at your your min max and avg.

We also found back in the Ivy days that you may be getting the higher clock but lower throughput irrespective of thermal and power throttling. The CPU can have semi-silent errors. Also, windows will log WHEA errors. Sometimes you had to up the voltage even though it was "stable". Also, so IBT you want to only run the thread count of the actual core count, and use affinity to let it run on every other CPU. HT hurts IBT.

1.4V at 5.2GHz. No wonder you don't like the newer versions of Prime95. Out of sight out of mind.

Remember... clock for clock 7700K vs 8700K gaming benchmarks. Needs em.

Memory OC seems pretty decent:
On the contrary, it's quite indecent. :)

Did you stay at 1.4V for these timings or went higher? Also, did you have to fiddle with secondary timings as well? Asking because I'm still trying to decide between the 3600 or the 4266 Trident Z kit.
