Codegen 480 W PSU

Hi guys,

My friend sold me this PSU (brand new) but I never read any reviews on it, so
I dont know anything about it... ok, it is 480W, PFC and it looks like a mean machine....

Does anybody have it in PC ? are you satisfied with it ?

Wattage means nothing, brand is everything. If memory serves me right, I don't think Codegen is a very good power supply brand. You might want to go with something a little more brand name, even if it's only 300 watt or something.

Of course, I've never used this PSU, so I can't comment on it, but....

I've also never used this particular codegen psu but I've used a couple of their 300 watters and wasn't impressed. I have a 250 watt psu that would run rings around those 300 watters from them.

Codegen 500W has:
3.3 = 30A
5 = 45A
12 = 18A

Pretty stong 5, but weak 12.

Antec 400W has:
3.3 = 28A
5 = 38A
12 = 18A

Seasonic 400w has:
3.3 = 28A
5 = 30A
12 = 22A

I think these days the 12 is pretty important, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, it looks like the 480W would probably be more cabable than the other brands 400W @ the lower voltages and maybe equal to a bit weaker @ 12 volts (couldn't find specs, but they are probably on a sticker on your supply)

Don't have any idea how stable all these are though.

My Antec 350 is:
3.3 = 3.28-3.31
5 = 4.94-4.97
12 = 12.22

Since you already have it, I guess it's worth a try.

Good luck!

I ran a Codegen 350W with the following system for *at least* two years:

Tyan Tiger MPX-4M
Dual AMD 1.2GHz- > MP 1600+ -> XP2400+ (upgrades over time)
Up to four hard drives (of late, Raptor 36GB + 2x 160GB + 120GB)
GF4 Ti4600 Dual-DVI
DVD+CDRW Combo -> DVD+-RW
Zip 250 ATAPI
TB Santa Cruz

A few months ago (late '03/early '04), I think one of the Molex connectors went bad. Only recently did I upgrade to a Thermaltake 480W because it was free (birthday gift card) and I wanted to try and reduce the noise of the system. Too bad the other fans in the case are the primary cause of overall system noise (2 x 80mm + removable hard drive bays with 40mm fans).

Needless to say, Codegen is alright in my book. Too bad I broke the door off of my Codegen case. But, it does give me a reason to pursue the Ahanix LandRover. 🙂
