codecs for windows media player

I have quite a few videos I try to play with WMP 9 but apparently I don't the correct codecs. WMP connects to the codec server but has errors downloading. Is there anyway to find out the codecs I need and be able to download them?

what file extension are they? chances are they are AVI - use GSPOT to identify what codec you need.

99% of the time you need ... XVID or DIVX download FFDSHOW filters

i run into the same problems, i try to play many avi and xvid movies and for the most part i can play everything but i have to install a ton of codecs its crazy, can anyone who has this same problem comment on what they use this is only an example of what i use to install to play movies from the start

something like that, usually gets all movies to play, but i got my hands on a ton of other codecs and installed them too just to make sure i can play everything encountered, anyone feel free to comment

that's cause many people think the codec they are using is superior. it's competition.

besides divx and xvid and wmp codecs, i haven't had a single problem.

sid59 i feel u always make a response to everything i post, i love it, anyway, ummm which divx xvid and wmp codecs do u actually use? and what system are you running them on?

u must not play many movies, for some things i can download they are impossible to play without proper, uncommmon codecs and audio ones too like AC3 persay, please get back to me or pm me thanks

lol, it's cause either ..

1.i woke up early and extremely bored. waiting for my friends and gf to call.
2. i hardly notice who im replying to unless the person is a troll. then i write their name on my wall and promise to deal with them .. hahahah


here are the things i watch from my computer

- over 100 DIVX /XVID movies
- anime
- music videos
- tv shows
- funny home clips / tv clips

codecs installed

Divx 5.03
Xvid
WMP 8 . 9 codecs

really, you should dl GSPOT (linked above) it will tell you the codec for the AVIs and tell you about the video and audio codecs installed on your system

I have never had WMP9 download the correct codec, I dont know why they bother with the online check because it always fails.:frown:

I had the same problems with never finding the correct codecs. FFDShow didn't really work for me, but the K-Lite Codec pack certainly did. Sorry no link, but I'm sure it's easy to find.
