I need a good, free codec pack for XP. One that lets me add/subtract what codecs I want would be great

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. I've also heard that the K-Lite pack is good. Which one should I use?

Most of the codecs are duplicated, so it prob doesn't matter too much.

Def like that site that Schadenfroh recommended though - simple, uncomplicated, and unkind to the right people.

Whichever one you choose, post back and let us know how it goes.

If you download the free version of Zoom Player, it will SELECTIVELY install what ever codecs you want/need. It also alows you to uninstall codecs. The only codec issues I've had are with MPEG2 and comercial DVD's with subtitlles. For that I bought the MPEG-2 Codecs from Intervideo for $15.

I've tried all sorts of codecs, I will try K-Lite though, I forgot about that. I tried CCCP last night, and nothing really changed.

The issue I have is when playing mos all my movies now, it's got a "shade" over it, like not true quality. I had to do a repair install of Vista a couple months ago and whatever codecs I had loaded were gone and I can't remember what I had to load to get the full quality out of the videos.

They aren't distored or anything, just....look like "cam" vids, if that sounds right.

Any suggestions?

I've tried updating my video card, I've considered buying a new one since Nvidia drivers won't play nice with the Viewsonic widescreen monitors. You lose the display no matter what drivers you use if it doesn't come direct from Microsoft.

Have you tried using ZoomPlayer (pack-in with CCCP, installs in that folder), with the video controls?
