Codec for Windows Media Center Edition

I finally decided to give the media center edition a try.
it came free with my dell laptop and a remote so I said, "what da heck" lets try this.

So far, I think the idea is very noble. Especially when hooked up to my 50" plasma my wife finds it very easy to use.

However, this is where the nirvana ends...

It will not play (all most all) avi files encoded in xvid, divx .x264, mpeg2 etc....

What is going on? Is there a special "codec" package proprietary for the Windows MCE that I can install?

Help please.

Download either the CCCP or K-lite packs for playback. I'm currently using K-lite. It works very well. I only switched to it from CCCP because it plays nicer with Windows Media Encoder.

Install Combined Community Codec Pack. It combines Haali Media Splitter with ffdshow to support pretty much every container/codec out there.
Container: AVI, MP4, MKV etc.
Codecs: DivX, XviD, AVC (H.264), VP6 (FLV videos), AC3 Audio etc.

By using the 'Register Filters' option somewhere during the initial setup, it allows the Media Library (at least in WMP11 which is what I use) to add mp4/mkv files to its database. I imagine it ought to work with Media Center too.
