check engine light came on.

went to adavanced Auto, got their odb2 scanner, and got code po442. under that it said "Evaporative emission control system leak detected (small leak)"

The guy behind the counter said it was gas cap. just clear the error. if it's something else, the check engine light will pop up again.

is it just tighten the gas cap? WHY does a loose gas cap create an error?

and how many miles after i tighten the gas cap will the check engine light go away?

To reset your CEL, disconnect your battery then put your foot on the brakes for 30 seconds. Then, reconnect your battery and you should be all set.

Because a loose gas cap creates a vapor leak.
I had this problem before, the dealer replaced the maf sensor and reprogrammed the ecm, it wasnt the gas cap.
