(code 19) CD Burner not configured properly

I built a new computer a while back. In the interest of saving money I bought a used comp out of the newspaper because it had a newer cd burner. This burner a Memorex 40Maxx 1248AJ would read, but not write. I never got it to work. When I opened the device manager it gave me this code. (code 19) the one in the title of the message, not configured properly and/or in conflict.
Anyway, after a few months with broadband the screenshots and winamp skins are piling up on the HD and I figure hey Circuit city has the Liteon deal 20 bucks for a new burner after rebate. So I get the burner same problem.

If anyone can help me plz do. I'd really like to get this damn thing going.

I am running Win-XP
Asus P4S8X-X MB
CD is Slave on Primary IDE

I have tried making it the master on the secondary IDE, however it does not even see it then.
The LED works when I open and close the door so I have power.

How should it be configured in the bios? I'm kinda new to this.
Should I enable Ultra DMA?
What else should I look for?

Any help is appreciated. TAI

Check to see if the jumper setting for Master/Slave is correct. The best way to run a burner is as a Master on IDE chan. 2.

Now for a couple of pieces of good news. Your Memorex 40x burner is a rebadged Lite-On LTR-40125W. If you get it working, you can flash it to be a Liteon 48125W (48x12x48), and an OEM copy of Nero 5.5 with the red label will work with it. It's really easy and safe, and for extra safety, you can back up your current firmware before you flash it.

For more info, search for info on the CD Freaks forums for info. You'll want two DOS programs, LITEFIRM.EXE and MTKFLASH.EXE, ver. 1.48 or 1.55. You'll also need the latest firmware from Lite-On's download site.

LITEFIRM extracts the BIN (binary) firmware file from the Lite-on executable installation file. You'll need this the first time you do it to convert it from Memorex to Lite-On. After that, you'll be able to use the Lite-On update program. MTKFLASH is the flashing program that uses the BIN file. PM me if you want more info.

Hope you get it working. If so, maybe this will be an extra present in your stocking... or at least your case. 🙂

Make sure the cable is attached correctly, the jumper on the drive is configured correctly, set the UDMA in the bios, let the bios auto-detect the drive. If your bios can detect it, you have a good chance of getting it to work.

for a code 19 error try this:

Open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Now delete the keys:
LowerFilters and UpperFilters. NB if only 1 key is there still delete it

Now reboot and your optical drive should function again
