My roommate just reformatted and installed XP but he gets a code10 error(device will not start) in Win XP Pro with his GF3 Ti 200. He has some crud arse PC Chips mobo with On-board video but its disabled. He also has a SB Live! 5.1 Xgamer but its in the 3rd PCI slot. What should we try to fix this problem?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

Thank You for your time,
J.

wow! i was JUST NOW dealing with this problem

have had a Kyro II installed in this system. tried to upgrade to geforce2 GTS about 4 months ago with no success becuz of error 10 and gave up. even reformatted hard drive (i thought it was a problem with trying to upgrade from kryo to nvidia - drivers and registry and all), to no avail

now TODAY this very hour i am trying to upgrade to a GF4 Ti4200. i was JUST ABOUT to reformat HD again and came across this message on front page of general hardware. amazingly timely! you just saved me a lot of hassle

i had gone over possible bios problems, but my bios lists the option as 'Assign IRQ to PCI VGA.' i ignored that setting cuz this is an AGP card... not PCI. yet it still fixed the problem. mislabeled bios setting?

thanks again!

also, seems kyro doesnt need this setting :)

It says PCI VGA because AFAIK the AGP is an advance PCI slot and is still on the PCI bus.

The AGP port doesn't lie on the PCI bus, look at the frequency...AGP = 66Mhz, PCI2.1 = 33Mhz. Or, look at the white papers for any chipset. AGP does use a PCI IRQ, though. Look in device manager, you'll see ISA IRQs (even if you don't have any ISA slots, the super I/O chip still uses the ISA bus) and PCI IRQs. AGP needs a PCI IRQ. Its odd that XP is having a problem with that, unless your mobo has an ACPI compatability problem

Sorry, I was wrong.

Anyway, I can't name anything that this mobo DOESN'T have a problem with. I hope PC CHips burns in Hizzel.
