COD4 worth it for online alone?

I beat it on 360 and single player was good. I would have originally got it for PC but it wasn't up to the task. But now I got a HD4850 coming and am thinking of buying it but just for online play. Is it worth the price tag alone just for online. I enjoyed CS:S for a few years, however I didn't like BF2 because I thought it was very unbalance(IMO anyway) how is it balanced compared to BF2? I know there are no vehicles.

It might be depending on how much you're gonna be playing. It's really fun working up the ranks and going through the challenges in multiplayer I find. If you like CS:S you'd probably love COD4 (as I have) because there's similar modes and much more, more realism, better graphics and visuals, etc. Never played BF2 myself, but COD4 is really worth it's value to me even though my brother got it for me for my birthday  . Only cons I find in multiplayer are the unless nade showers :( .

I found it very boring, but I'm in the minority. A lot of people absolutely love it and swear it is one of the best MP games to come out in a long while.

Battlefield 2 is a far superior online modern setting FPS game. I regret paying $50 for CoD4, but I have not played the single player yet. Unfortunately, my online gaming clan only plays CoD4 at the moment.

Wow, I didn't know there was so much hate for CoD4.

I love it. Bought it first on the PC, then later for 360 after I got one. Both versions have their own strengths and weaknesses. But for online, I love them. In fact I bought them almost entirely for online play because I didn't like the single player mode that much.

The single player isn't really that great. The multiplayer is fun, but there aren't nearly enough MP maps.

I feel the same way. I thought the single player was fun, short but fun. All the guys I have played games with since BF1942 (about 15 of us)swear it's the greatest and can't get enough. It's like crack to them but I find myself extremely bored in just a few moments.

<edit> I especially don't like the small maps....lots of spawn and die.

Definitely. I played COD4 on a ps3 and it's okay for a multiplayer shooter with pretty graphics but it's been done to death. No way does it compare to BF2 far as gameplay and fun factor.

COD4 is a good game, i play it competively with a group of people... if i had the option to goto a TF2 clan i would, COD4 seems more of a spam game, where tf2 actualyl requires some sort of teamwork.

TF2 is what I am currently into now even though I haven't played it in a while(since the medic, pyro, ect updates). I was just look at something different since I now have a card that can handle it. I mainly bought the HD4850 though for Crysis because it can somewhat run the settings I like to play at. If I can score it used for $20-25 I might jump on it anyway just to try out.

Should be plenty of user / community made multiplayer maps out there.

I'm personally a BF2 fan myself. Especially the underappreciated DCON mod. But it's getting pretty hard to get enough players together for a good match of DCON CTF in BF2.

I bought COD4 a while ago, played a few hours of single player then had it sit on the shelf, for the future.

I saw an Xfire stat that showed 14 million monthly minutes of COD4 play vs 2 million minutes of BF2 in the same period, so I started looking at COD4 for capture the flag mods.

Anyway, if you set the switch to allow it to include MODS in the server listing, you might discover a whole new world of maps that you might enjoy. It's cool how the game downloads them off of the server, then automatically plays them. It was downloading content before every round, so I assume they were all new maps.
I haven't actually played enough to know which maps are stock (the ones you guys are bored of).

Games have been doing that since Unreal Tournament (99) :p

52 hrs logged in MP - 1 hr in SP
It gets my vote as being worth it for that alone :)

If there were bigger maps, it'd be more interesting. You'll be surprised at how good it looks but the gameplay does end up running short on gas.

The single player in COD4 is crazy short and not all that great. The multiplayer on the other hand is really really good assuming you find yourself a gametype/server that doesn't blow (50 player Free for All Shipment for example). But yeah it's definitely worth it.

I enjoyed the COD4 single player even though it is short and pretty linear, it was well done and the presentation was very slick. MP is very fun too though and definitely worth it, even if it is a spam fest often.

I have CoD 4 on my PS3. I really suck because I've been playing FPS on my PC since Wolfenstien. But that is my problem not the games. Its pretty well done in MP. SP is kinda... short to say the least and even though I suck at it, I still manage to get by.

Single player story was epic. It was like watching a movie except you controlled each scene.

MP is awesome. I'm playing it on PS3 so that may be different PC, but it's really fun to get exp and higher ranks. Challenges are fun to complete and overall it's just really good MP.

I disagree.
