Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward Community Relations Manager, has announced that the new feature patch for the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4 has finished it?s internal testing and development and has officially been sent off to Microsoft for Certification. Below is a list of some of the new features found in this upcoming patch:

New Kill Cams

We?ve added new Kill Cams for everything. So now those ?WTF!? grenades that seemingly come from no where, you can see that a guy threw it over the house, it hit a tree branch, bounced off a rock, into a tiny window, where you happened to be pointing out of, and say?? whoa. Follow behind RPGs and M203?s kill cams, claymores, Airstrikes where you can follow the bomb from the plane until it hits you.

Host Migration

Now you won?t have to be dropped back by yourself when a host leaves. Instead, everyone will stay together, a new host will be assigned, and the game will auto-start back up. Keeping everyone together, no more re-inviting, re-joining games because some host leaves. This has been a tall order and something that we?ve put a lot of work into which has allowed us to really optimize online play all around not just specifically with Host migration.

Improved Sniper / ACOG Accuracy

Sniper and ACOG scopes have been tweaked and are really improved. I use to not snipe at all (mainly because I?m a horrible sniper), but now it?s so much more fluid and natural, while still having the same difficulty to use, it has no more ?WTF I know I hit that guy!? moments.

Upgraded Spectator Cam

Now when you?re in spectator mode you can follow them in 3rd person, switch to their first person view, or rotate the camera in a full 360 degrees around whoever you?re watching.

Quick Mute Option

Users will now be able to quick mute players on the fly by pulling up the scoreboard in-game or via the lobby by simply going to their name and hitting the mute assigned button. As quickly as calling in and designating an airstike. So no longer getting killed while trying to make your way through the Xbox blades for the mute option so you can shut up the guy who always seems to find it funny to sing into his mic or cover up for his lack of skill by telling you how to play Domination his way.

I assume that something similar will be on the way for the PS3.

Damn, I really liked the lack of a ton of sniper whores in CoD 4. :(

The kill cams currently suck on CoD4. They make it seem like everyone reloads after a kill, and that you can kill someone in the middle of a reload.

It's in internal testing @ IW. I'm really curious to see what changes were made to the ACOG's on snipers - if it means you can hold your breath, awesome. I just hope they don't do that for ACOGs on everything.

Host migration is the #1 problem, glad that it's fixed.

Interesting that they're adding things that Halo3 has had since day 1 (host Migration and Quick Mute). Not to try and say Halo3 is a better game, but it does seem more user friendly from this aspect of things.

Host migration is something that we've been complaining about since the Beta ...

Certainly, there are ways in which Halo 3 is better, and even after this patch there will be ways in which Halo 3 is better. And there are and will continue to be ways in which CoD4 is better.

There can be only one!

;)

Heh...that would actually make a pretty good photocop. Master Chief and a soldier from COD4 trying to chop each other's head off...

This patch has been on it's way to Microsoft since December. At this point, who cares? The MP portion of the game was fun for about 6 weeks. I finished up the SP on Veteran, got my 1000/1000 gamer points and then filed the game in my library. The SP will be fun to play through every year or so.

So you made it through Prestige all the way? If not, your judgement on MP is rather ... sad. No offense, but it went through MS once and there was an issue with the host transfer - so it went back to IW. So no, it hasn't been there since December.

I'm at about level 32 on my 10th prestige and I love the game the way it is. The patch will make things better, but I think they should have tried to get the patch out much sooner. With R6:V2 and GTAIV coming out and with constant competition from Halo 3 I think there is going to be significantly less COD4 players in a couple months.

My judgment is just that. It's my opinion from playing the MP portion of the game everyday for around 6 weeks. I got really burnt out on the maps and gameplay. I didn't find any fun out of the game anymore so I moved on. If I recall, since I haven't played it in a while, I'm close to unlocking Prestige for my second time, but I don't see how that really matters. So, as I said, a patch has been on its way to MS since December. Thanks for backing me up.

Finally! I've been waiting for this patch for a long time now. After December/January, plagued with XBL issues and hosts leaving, I was starting to lose interest in the game.

No, it was @ MS once, and then rejected earlier in January and back to IW! Difference in our statements ;)

And Mike, that "host leaving" issue could also be a corrupt profile that would drop you from games - I have it all the time, rather frustrating. It's supposed to be in with this patch - but it's more of a backend thing.

It depends. Various devs have complained about the Byzantine process that is required to get stuff approved however.

Note that the QA process at MS to get things released over Live has more to do with making sure that whatever is released doesn't break Live and meets certain standards more than it has to do with making sure gameplay bugs aren't present.
