COD4 maps get price cuts this weekend + double XP

Call of Duty 4 may be winding down as a new season of shooters (and the game's own successor) are on the horizon, but that hasn't stopped Infinity Ward from ramping up its community efforts. Hoping to pull some straggling players (what few there may be) into the world of the new maps, the company has announced that this weekend's double XP event will be joined by a 50 percent off sale on the game's Variety map pack.

The XP event and sale applies to the Xbox 360 this weekend, while the PS3 equivalent will be coming in the next few weeks. Players who have yet to pick up the Variety map pack can do so until Sunday for 400 Microsoft Points, or $5. The pack includes four new levels, including the sniper haven "Creek," the hectic "Broadcast," the dizzying "Chinatown," and the deadly "Killhouse."

I've long been a Call of Duty 4 fan: it's one of the few titles from last year's holiday rush that I'm still playing. And Infinity Ward has done well by its title, with support and great community communication throughout the game's lifespan. I just hope Treyarch can pull this year's version off without dropping the ball?what we've seen of Call of Duty 5 was promising, but it's hard to let the doubts go.

Not sure who wrote this but there is no "Call of Duty 5," that'll be IW's.

I'll agree with him though, this game has kept it's luster for almost a year now, still one of my most played games.

This is what I've been waiting for. Looks like it's time to start COD multiplayer again. Been playing burnout paradise. Looking forward to the motorcycles in that one.

maybe more folks will get the map pack now. I bought it a while ago and I never see the new maps pop up as not many others have them.

i got the maps for free back with goty im thinking of starting to play again. havent touched the game in like 3 months. send invites if you see me on. im down

I really hope they get another map pack out, but I doubt thatll happen - they want people to buy WaW instead.

I got the map pack the first or 2nd day. frankly it isn't even worth the 400 points much less the 800 they charged. Killhouse I've only played a few time with friends, it doesn't count. Creek gets skipped a lot it's sniper map. If you snipe get it for that alone. Chinatown is a poor man's Carenten remake. Broadcast is ok. Save your money or points

No, they don't. W@W is produced by an entirely different company and has absolutely no correlation with CoD4 outside of the name.

I tried playing tonight and it was just creek, broadcast, chinatown over and over again. The only one i like is chinatown, barely

I might pick these up now. I haven't played the game in a while but the map pack might get me back into it. It is a great game

They have plenty of correlation, as they're both developed by different in-house studios of Activision, the company that publishes the COD games.

The new Call of Duty is also using the COD4 game engine, it will perks, etc... I would say it is definitely a sequel even though it is made by another developer
