CoD4 lag

I know my computer isn't the best, but it plays CoD4 at normal settings. My problem is that when there are a bunch of nades exploding around me or an airstrike nearby I get laggy or choppy gameplay. If there are lots of people in the server then sometimes it doesn't even matter if the airstrike is near me or all the way across the map, I still lag. These are mainly the only times I lag though, so I'm wondering if this is just internet lag or if it is my computer?

I have Mediacom cable internet (don't know the speeds off the top of my head but I would guess its 3meg down and 1meg up) and my pings are almost always around 60. I am wireless but I still lag whether or not my dad is playing online.

Specs:
AMD 4200+ X2
1GB RAM
7600GT

Please help me find the source of this lag! I can't stand it :(

honestly 7600gt is one, 1gb ram is another, try this, no aa, no af, no shaddows, no soft smoke edges, max everything else out and play at 1280x1024 resolution, worked on my P4 system before i upgraded but still have my 7800GT OC

Turn off your Anti-virus, iirc, that solved some of the issues with people complaining about lag during air strikes.

Well it looks like real soon I'll be moving up to 2GB of RAM. Will I see an improvement? I tried turning off my antivirus but it didn't seem to help. I don't think I'll be able to get a new video card for a while as I will also need a new power supply (I think).

Just a small update: I added 2gigs to my comp. so now I'm up to 3gigs of RAM but the airstrike-lag still persists so I guess I'll be getting a new vid card eventually. Maybe this fall I'll pick up a nice 8800GT or 9600GT (by then they should be fairly cheap)

Just letting people with my problem that it is probably leaning more on the graphical bottleneck side.

Is it lag meaning latency... packet loss??? Or is it drops in FPS?

To figure this out, go to single player and see if the problem persists during a crazy scene there. If it does then you can blame a lot of it on your 7600GT...

I blame latency issues on Punk Buster more then anything else... But also like mentioned above your antivirus etc...

Also, is this everywhere you play online or just a few servers? I ask because you say "server."

Nonsense.

I agree, I've logged plenty of COD4 hours, all on wireless, and it's rare for my ping to go over 100.

2nd vote for AV.

I've been playing COD4 without any issues until this evening when it really starting lagging bad. Turns out McAfee started a system scan. I canceled it, and everything is a.o.k. again.

I play on many different servers.
