I've searched this forum prior to asking and some said an 8800gts 320mb could pull it off. If any of you can speak from experience (or if you have a link to some review) what video card is needed to accomplish this I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. It needs to run smoothly at this res not at 10fps ;).

Agree with others.

Off-topic: Does anyone find COD4's graphics too console-like? I could see where the graphically heavy load took place, but they're way too flashy and overly exposed. The devs might have looked after the 'Wow' factor, but it totally killed realism for me.

id wait and see what the 9800 is like, you only have a few weeks to wait.

Although the 8800GT can pull it off its not a wise upgrade for 1920x res.

For this game, and almost anything released before it, but don't even think about newer stuff.

Thanks, I'm not really thinking about newer stuff I just need a video card to run for the next 3 months or so.

a 3870 or 8800gt can do both with very playable frame rates that you won't notice a difference in gaming between the two. get the cheaper

Thanks for all the help, I ended up picking up an 8800gts 320mb. Hopefully it'll suffice for the next 3 months.

I felt this way at first when comparing to crysis PC only without port. But after playing thought both games completely, i really enjoyed cod4 much more than crysis. It's like 2nd best looking graphics compared to crysis. Crysis just has awesome things like godrays, water, battledust, etc.

Cod4 can really rock graphically if you set it up right. Use your nvidia control panel to set high quality.

Try 4xaa and max AF via the game options menu ingame in cod4. Manually set your texutres to Ultra, and all graphics menu options to top, normal, insane etc. Check brightness, aspect and other things. Overall this game is MUCH more impressive than crysis. Crysis wins IMO with a few particular exceptions in graphics.... Like forrested areas, water/reflections. particle/smoke effects, DoF, Motionblur, parralax & bump mapping, and a few other things.

Either way cod4 is so optimized, it slaughters crysis performance wise and looks almost as good. After playing both and beating them a few times, I'll never go back and play crysis, yet I enjoy many levels in cod4. 10 years from now when crysis runs at 100fps on Ultra extreme quality with 16AA and 16XQAF, I'll probably go back and play some crysis.

COD4! Ftw.

Edit: on topic - 3870X2, 8800Ultra, OC'ed 8800GTS 512, or - future 9800gtx/9800gx2

Wow. Here I was keeping this to myself, but I agree with jaredpace almost completely with regard to COD4 vs Crysis. Don't get me wrong...I'm only 1/3 the way thru Crysis so far and the graphic detail is incredible but in terms of fun factor, COD4 beats Crysis hands down, IMO. Perhaps I feel this way because I grew up PC gaming during the UT99 days, and the recent COD4 is more "UT03/04 like" than let's say COD UO. I'm not happy about that btw since I played UO for over 1 year almost daily (along with BF2), but the fact is that when this old married dude with 2 small kids and very little personal time only has 30 mins to game or so, it's COD4 multiplayer that gets loaded, not Crysis. If I don't have at least an hour to devote, Crysis collects dust on my hard drive.

I loved the variety in the missions, scenery, and gameplay. The rain and water effects on the ship mission were fantastic. The grass and foliage looked great, along with some fantastic character textures. I particularly liked the mission where you had to crawl along the ground with that crazy suit on...to me that looked very realistic. The engine is also very efficient and doesn't require a massive rig to make it look great.

True - that mission rocked they call that a Gilley Suit. Best looking camo graphics I have ever seen in a video game (when you compare it to a korean's camo hat in crysis)

my evga 8800gt super clocked (all newegg had in stock that hr) played cod4 great at 1080p. The only place i saw it slow down was in the beginning on the boat, when you have to run outside in the rain to get to the chopper. It was choppy for about 3sec's. So the 8800GT is more then enough. Good to hear the 8800GTS 320MB can handle it.
I was so psyched for Crysis, and though it was pretty fun, CoD4 whooped it for fun factor. I may even play CoD4 again.
I liked the gun ship mission... just really slick.

my favorite were the two last levels, where your firing at the apache from the back of the jeep with the RPG, and then the VIP rescue mission on the 747

COD4 is the best game I've ever played.
