I liked the Call of Duty series so far, and feel that I sort of know what I'm getting, but I've only seen rave reviews for Gears of War. Given the choice of the 2 which would you get?

Both!

But if I had to choose one, it would be GOW, because I know COD3 is just gonna be more of the same, especially since EA is in charge.

I read somewhere that it would be after release sometime.
I think their main focus was getting the game out, and getting it out on time. Hopefully there are no showstopping bugs, for their sake.

Been playing GoW today and it's everything the hype has led you to believe. Multiplayer is just out of this world and I'm already seeing some GREAT teamwork online.

I reserved it today, so they better hope I get a copy tomorrow. The guy said it would be no problem.

I also reserved R6: vegas today

Yea, to what I have seen COD3 will be more of the same, just different levels. I would go for GOW....without even thinking about it

You've played GoW already? I preordered my copy a few weeks ago, and I'm going to pick it up tonight at 12am at Gamestop. I can't wait. It got insane reviews from every website I've been to. Looks like Halo 3 has a lot to compete with.

Microsoft ain't going to release a demo for a game that is getting an average score of 9.4 to 9.6. This game is going to be as big as Halo and no its not FPS but a thrid person shooter/Platformer hybrid. Microsoft looking to sell over 1million copy by then end of week.

I'd definitely get GoW now and COD3 later with a good deal (you can already import it for $45).

I want to play both as well but my time is more limited than my money. :) I went with GoW.

I've found myself tiring of gaming lately, which has caused me to play through some old classics (Chrono Trigger, Mario64, and Worms Armageddon, for example).

I bought GoW on a whim, and have been totally shocked by how good it is. It started off "meh" in the beginning, but I keep coming across checkpoints that I only wish to play again and again. And this is only campaign mode, as I have yet to take it online.

I really enjoyed CoD2, but CoD3 will have to wait a few more weeks, at least.

I think I remember you saying that GoW may not be your thing, but that doesn't mean it's not good. Rainbow Six Vegas looks and plays great, but the thing about GoW is that it's so different. It's a welcome change of pace after 5 years of regurgitation. I'll definitely be picking up Vegas, but nothing can touch GoW right now (generally speaking, of course).

As for CoD3, it looks nice, but run-and-gun just doesn't cut it on a console for me. The cover mechanics of GoW and R6 help mitigate the fact that you're playing a shooter on a console.

Yah I was iffy on GoW from the get go.. I took a chance and boguht it and while I like it.. its just not all that like they said it would be.. it really is just another 3rd person shooter but the game is fun.. and the sound and visuals are impressive.. but it plays like other games before it..

also what bothers me.. the basic locust grunt model and the allied troop are too similar.. same bulky armour and when runnign around close to each other its hard to tell the difference under fire except that your cursor will go red over hostile..

I havent tried CoD3.. Im pretty burnt out on this entire franchise really..
I traded in CoD2 for GoW in fact.
