CoD2 patch 1.2 is out

Description
This is the 1.2 update for Call of Duty 2. Version 1.2 includes the multi-core processor optimizations contained in the 1.01 update.


FEATURES:


- Optional PunkBuster? anti-cheat technology for online play!
- HTTP Redirect functionality for servers running Mods or custom maps.
- "Message Of The Day" functionality for multiplayer server messages which will appear on the client's Welcome Screen.
- Improved multiplayer spawning on all maps designed to reduce the likelihood of spawning near enemy players.
- Two new multiplayer maps: Harbor, and Rhine!


FIXES:


- Rare AMD dual-core bug in single player that stopped health regeneration.
- Client exploit that could cause multiplayer servers to crash.
- Numerous multiplayer exploit fixes.


This update supports US/UK English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Czech, Japanese, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, and Korean language versions of Call of Duty 2 only.

Sadly the notes don't contain anything about a performance improvement.

The performance isn't that bad. The new levels look excellent though. I wish I could turn off that whitish, hazy look. It's getting kind of annoying. It makes everything look bland and without contrast.

Actually I have and several other that played on our server have seen a perfomarce increase.

I hadn't read whether this screws up your SP saved games ... anyone know ??? I have one map to go to finish the game and didn't want to load it before determining whether its compatible with the current saved games. Sadly, I'm sure the MP game is on its last legs but if I get a months worth out of that, I will probably pick up Oblivion next assuming that's patched and running better than the initial release.

I have not seen anything on single player saved games yet but then I am looking at issues with servers and the patch.

As for the multiplayer on its last legs, the game just came out last fall and with the patch, several people are looking for it to increase players.

about time they added PB. hopefully the server i play on turns it on. if they do, i'd be interested in seeing if several of the people who consistently get insane scores and stuff like that.

Cool, I quit playing my SP campain because of that health regen bug. Will patch it up and give it another go.

My guess would no until they find something else. The exploits that were fixed is a good thing. The map where you could jump thru the window and actually be out of the area map but still shoot people was a pain in the a$$ for our server admins. We kicked more people freom that mao then any other map.

is that the map with the cemetery? i saw that happen there once.

tyler, thanks for the info .... I am still an active Wolf:ET player and before that a lot of UT and CoD,MoH:AA multi as well so I saw how patches and mods would fragment the playing community. I sorta miss the old Quake 1 CTF days when it was the only MP worth playing but I do hope that CoD2 MP has its best days ahead of it (especially with PB enabled servers cutting down on the casual gamer hacks).

I loved the SP game, even tho I am definitel getting burned out on FPS games (been playing since '97 online) and need a good strategy game to entertain my gaming needs. Warcraft was a great game but I didn't like Warcraft 2 .. go figure.

Yes the map with cementary and the samll building in the corner.

The performance isn't that bad.

DX9 performance is terrible and it doesn't look much better than DX7.

As an example I get around 55 FPS average in my crusher demo under DX7 running at 1920x1440 with 4xAA.

Under DX9 I have to drop to 1600x1200 with no AA and I still only get around 31 FPS in the same demo.

...I might add that I was slightly dissapointed that they didnt attempt to fix the DX problem...but overall 2 new maps,pb,and some exploit fixes are good.

I keep getting crashed to the desktop. You know the one where Windows says COD2 experienced an error, would you like to report it. Sometimes though, it gets an error, but I could still play. It all started after the new patch. Anyone else.

Weird .... trying to install the patch last night (after I finished off the last map) and I received an 'unable to determine your version of CoD2' message ! I usually run CD cracks on any game needing the CD but for CoD2 I had actually left the CD in the drive since December when I got the game.

Are you getting this when you try playing MP with PB enabled?

If you dont uninstall and do a fresh install your going to have problems with the new patch.I couldnt play on 90% of the servers.

I have had no problem but then I got rid of some stuff I do not play and defraged first. One thing I did also was disable my anti virus. I did it thru the first time with my anti virus on and it would tell me "CD Key in use"

well the server i play on doesn't have pb turned on even though they are against cheating. i've suspected some of their members and another clan they are friends with of cheating and this just doesn't look very well on them in my eyes.

i need a new fps anyway but i don't know what to play. fear doesn't have pb and isn't all that fun to begin with. never could get into quake but maybe i should try it out again.
i loved the original UT but ever since they came out with the UT2k games i haven't liked it as much. for some reason i suck at CS even though i do fairly well in other fps games.
red orchestra is just too sim-like, i don't like how the weapon react in DOD. never liked farcry that much... so yeah, i'm pretty much out of luck until something new comes along.

what i really need is a mmorpg to satisfy me. hurry up Age of Conan!!!
