Dear All:

Over the past few months I have come to really enjoy playing the Zombies mode in the most recent CoD game -- which is nice b/c I hate the Black Ops MP compared with the MW2 MP -- and it enabled me to meet some cool people over Steam.

Anyway, I was wondering how the L4D gameplay compares to CoD and whether you think I should purchase L4D2 and give it a try. From the outset, I'm pretty sure one big difference is that in L4D2 you actually have to advance through multiple levels instead of just facing waves in a single level and I also think that there is a greater focus on melee combat in L4D2. Again, I think this is the case and would appreciate any correction or additional information.

Thanks, in advance, for information about L4D2 and thoughts on its comparison with CoD.

Regards,

They're nothing alike at all, except they both have zombies. I mean, L4D2 does have survival mode, which is basically like the CoD zombie mod with more elements.

I don't want to get into what the game's like, since you can read any review to find that out. Word to the wise: get some people to play with. Pubs can be very taxing to cope with in this game, and nobody really has incentive to stay in games (kind of a big deal, considering campaigns are pretty long. So they're easily proned to being ruined).

If you've never tried the game though, it is most definitely worth the money.

EDIT: Man, especially for $20.

I'm a huge fan of L4D and L4D2. Having played CoD "Zombie mode", on the other hand, my honest opinion is that it's very boring. In fact I think it's a bit insulting to compare the two. In L4D, you and a group of three other survivors progress through a campaign, sort of like a "mini-movie", where you traverse large and varied environments while slaughtering hundreds of zombies. You have a large variety of weapons, like SMGs, assault rifles, snipers, pistols, magnums, axes, katanas, chainsaws, even guitars (as a melee weapon). You have to use teamwork to fight through hordes. And they MOVE fast. Ever seen the movie 28 Days Later? It's like that. Not to mention the "special zombies", which take more effort to kill and make the game much more interesting.

CoD zombie mode is just shooting stuff out of windows, isn't it? (maybe I'm just thinking WaW, I haven't played Codblops.)

Personally I prefer BO Zombie Mode over L4D2. The combat in BO is better than the combat in L4D2. L4D2 feels too easy and too weak. Bluntly put there's no tactics in L4D2. It devolves into a spam fest most of the time. I've beat entire campaigns on hard using the default on pistol and it's unlimited ammo. My pet peeve with the game is that; Traditional weapons associated with the zombie apocalypse like the shotgun and molotov don't do enough damage to be worth the hassle. Even the assault rifles take around a dozen shots to kill a zombie. The large weapons variety is pointless because most weapons overlap each other in functionality. Unlike Black Ops.

But hey, If you want a copy of L4D2 send me a PM. I'll gift it to you for free.

I'd take L4D over CoD any day. You can't beat CoD zombies, it's just play till you die. It gets old. L4D doesn't get old.

RobertPters77 have you tried kicking it up a notch with expert realism? The weapon problem will still be there but it won't be a weak game anymore that's for sure.

Full disclosure I haven't played much of l4d2, I just lost the feel of the game for some reason after l4d. My comment comes from my better half who remains addicted to l4d.

To the OP, as others have said it's an entirely different game. One however that is worth your time to check out!

Also you might look into Killing Floor, another very different game (think CS versus AI zombies) while earning xp to advance your character.
