99% of the time, the game runs fine. But, it seems to have an uncanny way of knowing exactly when to freeze, so that it causes me to get killed at the worst time. Is there a setting within or without it that would eliminate this problem?

Is the game fully patched? DirectX current? Videocard drivers? That could be one reason.

On my old NF2-chipset based motherboard, Half Life would do that to me. The sound would start to stutter/repeat over and over; that was my cue to hit ESC quick, before it froze and crashed to the desktop.

HL was the only game it did it with. Odd.

Hope this helped somewhat. :)

Patched? No. I'll look into that. DX is 9c, which is as up to date as I'm going to get. Video card driver is up to date. There is no stuttering, or other warnings. The game doesn't actually crash, because after 10-15 seconds, it lets go and continues normally.

Some of the other games have their own problems, but this is unique to CoD

I found a number of websites where the patch is available, but they all seem to require me to creat an account with them to download it. The last time that I did something like this, I started getting alot of spam. Is there a place where I can download it, without registering?

I found the 1.4 patch at the activision website, but there is also a 1.5 patch elsewhere, which I assume is newer. Does this mean that the 1.5 patch is not official?
