CoD Black Ops: Player movement or game engine continues downhill.

Does anyone else feel that every CoD engine after CoD2 has been getting worse and worse even though the graphics may get better each time?

I still play CoD2 quite a bit. I have also played CoD Modern Warfare, World at War, and now Black Ops side by side with Cod2. It just seems the game engine just keeps getting more and more awkward, or at least the way your character moves/reacts to the environment. Feels more robotic when the older CoD and CoD2 engines seems so much more easy to play because of effortless movement. Now it seems it takes more effort, and I'm finding I have to think a whole lot more about my characters movement in the newer games when I rarely ever do in the older ones.

Why can't they keep the same gameplay engines and just improve the graphics?
Very annoying, and I know they are just pumping out newer versions as fast as possible to make the mula. But a little quality would be nice.

I finished the single player Black Ops, and now I'm finding hard pressed to want to play the MP version of Black Ops over my decrepit old CoD2.

That version of the game is so much more fun to play.

Also, have you ever tried to say how you felt about the game engine on a public Black Ops server? I did just to see if I'm not alone here. Got cursed out by a bunch of toddlers. LOL. "Don't like it, don't play, Idiot". OMG.

Thoughts?

:) just messin' with ya!

i have no idea what you are talking about though. you move forward, backward, left, right, crouch or jump. what else kind of movement/reaction do you need? I haven't played CoD2 in years but I don't recall anything different than the standard movement?

It's not like you're playing as Neo and can do bullet doges and stuff like that.

I too am wondering why you're playing and paying for these games. You can't expect quality when you let them know what they're making now is good enough to get your money.

is it the FOV? I wouldn't be surprised if the developers have been decreasing the FOV from CoD 2 to Black Ops

low FOVs make movement feel pretty constrained imo

I find whenever you switch to a different game than what you're used to the controls feel clunky. When I switched to COD from BC2 it felt very wierd, and now I'm starting to play BC2 again since the DLC came out and it feels very awkward.

Adjust the FOV until it's where you want it.

FPS games don't move nearly as smooth as they used to (at least for the major titles). CS, Quake 1-3, RTCW, etc, all have the best movement ever, honorable mention to TF2.

Some of the COD games are kinda fun, but it's not super satisfying and slick like the classics.

The graphics are not getting better, Black Ops uses the old Modern Warfare 1 engine but Treyarch made it worse than MW1 by going for a completely washed out color scheme along with super low res textures.

Everybody kills Modern Warfare 2 and says it sucked, yet the PC version had phenomenal graphics including vivid color schemes, highly detailed character models, and super high res textures and enhanced lighting over the XBox version. It was night and day (I own MW2 for both PC and 360).

Black Ops, on the othe hand, looks like total garbage but it plays better. The killstreaks don't stack and therefore are quite balanced, whereas in MW2 it was a joke. Also noobtubes don't see much action, in MW2 it was a disgrace how abused those were.

Also, funnily enough, I find the movement in MW2 to be the one of it's greatest strengths. Games like Battlefield force you to sprint in a straight line, CoD allows you to move more dynamically while sprinting. Love that. Also the running animations are pretty sweet in MW2.

I loved MW2 - at least the game play and graphics - unfortunately they did nothing to stop the cheaters. Apparently they did not foresee it being such an issue.

Also some of the maps were consolised. On the roof map you can run over to the edge of the door and fire through the window to headshot someone in the opposing teams spawn - doesn't happen on console so it was a nonissue.

Heh, that's funny because MW2 is the only version I do not own, nor have I played it. I've had CoD/United Offesive, CoD2, CoD4 MW, CoD W@W, CoD BlackOps. And so now I'm being told that the only one I don't have, is the one I should have. And this should answer AyashiKaibutsu's question.

"I too am wondering why you're playing and paying for these games. You can't expect quality when you let them know what they're making now is good enough to get your money."

Because people told me that the only one I don't have is the best one. Now I have to go out and buy it. ;)

MW2 is not perfect and everyone has their own preferences. For me it's not close, MW2 is the best in every respect, especially from a technical perspective (graphics, audio, overall polish), however it falls short due to some of the ridiculous class setups avaialbe (Danger Close/One Man Army, Commando) and the fact Infinity Ward was apparently too stubborn to patch some of that nonsense.

I play multiplayer primarily, for the campaigns I thought MW1 was the best in the series. If you're not a fan of matchmaking (a la XBox Live) then you may not like MW2, personally I've always loved the ease and consistency of matchmaking but it does have serious drawbacks as well, particularly on PC where cheaters are more plentiful than consoles.

Don't get me starting on this pile of crap game.

Worst game of year award.
1. Terrible multiplayer
2. Small maps (seriously you can throw a nade accross start to otherside in some)
3. Terrible textures (compare to say bad company 2)
4. Blocky/bad models. Seriously they are messed up beyond reasoning)
5. Terrible keyboard layout from start. Including mouse settings are borked up.
6. Menu system is retarded.
7. Singleplayer is mindnumbing easy/boring.

I played singleplayer for a hour and decided to watch As Good As it Gets online because i was bored. Its that bad..the game not the movie.
