COD 4 through Steam

I bought COD 4 at Best buy.

How can I play this game on Steam?

It seems like I can't.

All I can do is add a shortcut.

I can't use the friends network....

Umm because you didn't buy it through steam. It just creates a shortcut just like windows does. The game is not tied into steam whatsoever unless you buy it through steam.
