Playing the single player (1280 x 1024, 4x aa, 16x af, all high quality, dx9) I am getting into some spots in the low 30's /20's. Is that normal?

Can a 6800 really handle all that eye candy?

With 7900GT's in SLI (690/1700), I'm able to use 4xAA/16xAF, Gamma AA, and TRSS, all in game settings max with textures on extra and I GET 40-60 and sometimes higher in some cases.
Thats at 1680x1050.
However, sometimes in really graphic intense areas it slows down a bit. I think COD2's engine isn't programed very well so your "puny" 6800nu can't handel it. Plain and simple.

I agree. your 6800nu is just too slow.

Did you read the topic summary?

FWIW, my 6800GT couldn't handle thost settings in heavy fighting at 800*600. At least it was 72" though :D

Those are fairly high settings.
Hardly; the problem is the DX9 renderer sucks chunks.

Well yeah it runs great in DX7, it looks like ******.
The image quality offered by the DX9 path over DX7 seems marginal in most cases.

Yep, at the ol' LAN parties, that pretty stuff gets shut off. Luckily, the game is fun in its own right and doesn't *need* the eye candy that dx9 affords.

For instance, it isn't likely that you will want to stop and stare at a shiny bump mapped surface while playing a rousing game of CTF.

That is an excuse made only by people who can't stand that their $400 gpu is not as good as a $400 console. The plain truth is that the xenos is really good at allocating its resources, while todays gpus have more power, but they are static pipelines. EG. xenos can utilize 16shaders and 16vertex while the x1900xtx has 32 more shaders than needed and only has half of the vertex shaders that the xenos utilizes.
I see where you are coming from though, because morrowing is an exception. I heard it still can't run well on today's top of the line machines.

I know what your saying, that the 360 GPU is more optimized, but then why doesn't oblivion, condemned all not run better on the 360 then the pc?

I agree it is more optimized, but the COD2 pc game was ported, and I have no doubt about that. It jsut runs like ****** o even the highest end pc, and the game doesn't have state of the art graphics or anything to justify it.

First off, saying that it runs like ****** is a bit of an overstretch. The xenos at its optimal resource configuration can match the x1900xtx at its optimal resource configuration. Optimization does play a part in gaming performance, but I think it is safe to say that the x1900xtx and xenos perform very similarly when it comes to Oblivion, a game canned for having been "ported".
On a side note, if Oblivion were optimized to run on pc hardware as much as the xbox 360, then the pc version would have to run well on only one exact, uniform hardware configuration, or taken a year to complete. Remember, it's impossible to make a virtual continent play well on a 6600gt.
