Cocktail party. Mixers? Drink recipes? Finger Foods?

Hey everyone -

Having a cocktail party tonight.

Was wondering what mixers I should be buying. So far:
Coke
Sprite
OJ
Ice
Tonic Water
Strawberry daq mix
Triple sec

What else do I need?

And what is a site where I could print out some drink mix recipes? So people who don't usually mix their own drinks can figure it out.

As far as finger foods, so far I was planning on:
Bruschetta
Cheese & crackers
Shrimp?
Artichoke dip

Any other ideas? That are not too difficult...

i got a good program that i can send you........its the best one ive seen for bartending

Get;
kettle one vodka
captain morgan rum
Southern comfort

That should cover everyones bases.

Oh yea, get a 12er of beer to. Not everyone (drivers) likes hard liquor but still can enjoy a drink.

Martinis are actually pretty easy to make and you can be pretty creative with the ingredients. All you need is gin/vodka, dry vermouth, ice and a shaker. Everything else is up to you. I personally like gin with lemon zest spritzed over the top (zest = the oily stuff that sprays out of lemon/lime/orange peel). A friend does a good one with vodka and spicy pickled okra (better than it sounds....really).

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

What about finger foods? Any ideas?
Are you near a Gordon's food service? The ones here have supermarket type places where the public can go in and get stuff in bulk. Their swedish meatballs are REALLY good and super easy (add meatballs, sauce to crockpot). Shrimp is kind of expensive, so I'd skip that. Bruchetta sounds like a good idea. Maybe fresh grapes too?

Speaking from experience, you should have grenedine, lime juice, lemon juice, and cranberry juice in addition to what you have. You'll need rum for the daquries. See if your grocery store has Fat Tueday's hurricane mix as well, it's $5 for a 4 pack and each one makes a pitcher (good stuff).

Buy ice, don't make it yourself. The store ice always crushes easier for me. You'll need a blender too, more powerful is better (Oster makes one with a glass carafe that will run you ~$30 at walmart, they're excellent).

Most importantly, unless its just a few people, you'll want a bartender. That way someone doesn't kill your liquor early.

Idrink has a thing where you can save a list of ingredients and it'll generate a list for you. Some of them are really weird and taste like ass, so stick to stuff you've heard of.

Oh yeah, sour mix for sure. Good drink with sour mix is 1 shot sour, 2 shots vodka, fill with club soda (5 shots in an 8oz glass). Saw that in maxim this month and they're pretty good 🙂

I remember the last time I went to a cocktail party. I wasnt directly invited, but my friend invited me, and anyone who shows up with a bottle of good Scotch is welcome wherever he goes. So, we show up, in blue jeans and polo shirts... everyone else has on suits w/ tie, dresses, gowns, etc. It was pretty funny, and a decent conversation starter.

That said, SoCo and lime juice makes a nice shooter.
Kaluha(sic)
Baileys
lemons/limes
lime juice
Frangelico and vodka... mix it together 55/45 with a little crushed ice... makes a greater shooter that tastes like chocolate cake (no joke)

get some straight cocktail glasses and put a drop of vermouth in each, swirl it around some, the toss it out. put some olives on a tooth pick in the glass, and fill it with chilled vodka or gin. they call it a "martini"
