Going to one tonight. The invite said to "dress up". It's at someone's house, age range is mid to late 20's.

My impression is that this means to dress like you're going to a club, so nice jeans, button up shirt, no tennis shoes basically. Is that right?

You could always go for the little black cocktail dress... (but I guess that also depends on the group you're going with)

Wear a jacket. Or a suit. Nice shoes, etc.

You'll figure it out. Plus if you look really sharp you might pick up some honeys.

-edit-
LOL..

That is not dressing up.

"dress up" means not going naked :p (sry, couldnt resist)

I would probably go with casual pants + nice shirt atleast. My recommendation would be jacket + tie though (dont forget the pants ;) )

Another good look would be nice sports coat, button up shirt with top button undone, slacks and nice shoes (black/brown), no tie.

Sounds like a jacket & tie to me as well .... "nice jeans, button up shirt, no tennis shoes" would be considered casual.

Dress up = suit, you may or may ot wear a tie. Or a bow tie.

I'm going with slacks and nice plain white shirt. No one's gonna wear a suit jacket once inside so it shouldn't matter.

One more question, dress shirt without undershirt, is that douche-y? You can't see my nipples through it.

EDIT: I will check back after my shower for the final verdict.

Undershirt, and wear a jacket if you have one. Very classy. Not a suit jacket, a sportscoat. You can always take it off. Better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed. Once you make an appearance and get comfortable then you can remove the sportscoat.

Remember what I said about the honeys.

Even if the jacket doesn't really match the slacks? The sport coat/jacket I have is more loose fitting, something I'd definitely wear if I were wearing dark (aka "nice") jeans + button up shirt.

For guys this mean you have to wear a coat & tie at a minimum. Suit is also acceptable.

No jeans, no tennis shoes, no polos!

Even some nice dark Khaki's with a sportscoat and a light colored shirt looks great. Match the shirt to the pants, and the coat them them both.

So in other words, slight contrast without the coat, then blend with the coat.

pants/shirt/coat...

beige/red/brown
brown/blue/gray
gray/yellow/black
black/white/charcoal

my fav...
light beige/dark blue/greyish brown.

Glad I didn't wear a suit. Wore a black denim jacket that's kind of stylish, and goes well with dress clothes. The dudes were pretty casual, basically club attire. A couple girls were dressed up, some weren't that dressed up.

One hot girl but I blew it with her... haven't hung out a lot in the past few months so my social skills are rusty.

Tequila would have sharpened those social skills right up.

True, but I'd have been the only one who drank enough to catch a buzz. It wasn't a drinking crowd.
