Using HDtune Pro I get a warning on

C7 CRC DATA error shows a warning, but using HD Sentinel it doesnt have that warning and it says all is ok. Is there a way I can remove that warning in HD Tune its bothering my COCD.

I dont know maybe a firmware upgrade or something. Any help big time appreciated.

BTW I got those errors on new drive cuz I had to do a chkdsk /b to fix a fake bad sector that came from the windows image. Fixed that but it was going through stage 5 which was gonna take 2 days soo I just hit reset on comp and it turns off and turns on,, then HD tune on C7 CRC DATA blah gives warning 40 errors. Thanks

Run your drive manufacturer's diagnosis utility. Do the SMART, short and long tests. With the Hitachi diagnosis I ran once, SMART and short tests were ok, but long test revealed a bad sector that it repaired and all was well again.

No luck, tried a low level format too. The smart reading looks like is permanent. Oh well

Also Im not getting the full speed,, I have a F4 320GB RMAed soo when I get that Im gonna replace it with this,, and give current one to my dad.

Im using 512 sector, before with my experience it was 4KB then I changed cluster size with Partition magic and my transfer went up by 40mb to 154mb first column crystal disk, used to be 124mb ish on 4KB until I changed to 512k

Im doing a re image, and it makes it 512k

Soo why are my scores low like this. annoying,,

Wipe all the SMART stats or just the warning on C7 CRC DATA ERROR

If so can you tell me what you would do ? thx gg and gl

SMART values are in the firmware of the drive, not on the platters so I'm guessing that he has some special app/tool to wipe them. I looked at the help for smartctl briefly but didn't see anything in it for wiping/resetting those values.

Thanks for the reply my brother...

I guess its not possible to change or alter the SMART . I would think there should be nor ? thx

Sorry for the delay.

Actually, for the record. The firmware for HDD IS on the platters.

SMART is stored in the firmware, so to wipe smart you need to have a software, or hardware tool that can send the proper commands to the drive.

http://www.t13.org/documents/UploadedDocuments/docs2006/D1699r3f-ATA8-ACS.pdf

T13 handles the ATA standard, which SMART happens to be part of.

You can write your own software to work with SMART, but it isn't easy.

There are some expensive data recovery tools (that I have access to) that can wipe SMART in 1 click.

Honestly, it is not difficult for me to wipe the SMART on your drive, I am located in Orange County, if you drive down here to my office during the week, I have no problems wiping it for you, no cost!

Regards,

Thank you your very kind Russwinters. 🙂 Problem is I have a F4 RMAed and will recieve it probably next week. Soo I will yank out the current F4 and give it to my dad and use the new one I get from Samsung.

I used to run www.harddrivedatasavers.com and we did disk recovery. We used a 600 dollar program called Easy Recovery Pro if I remember correctly. Can you tell me which app you use. Thanks a bunch!!!

We do physical recovery as well.

For software I favor:

http://www.r-studio.com/

http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm

http://www.ufsexplorer.com/

http://www.winhex.com/winhex/

For Hard Drive Imaging for Data Recovery:

http://www.hdd.ji2.com/products/hard_drive_data_recovery_atola_insight_DR.html

This product also does firmware repair, diagnostics, and file recovery for NTFS, FAT, and Ext (HFS soon as well)

For physical recovery, use custom made tools for head stack transplants, platter transplants and alignment, soldering etc.

Thx my friend Russ, Can you tell me out of all those apps which one has the clear SMART info ? thx again 🙂

Dear, RussWinters I tried thanks to you 3 of those programs. r studio and runtime.org app and usfexplorer and none of them had a option to clear SMART or just clear the one Im getting warning on.

C7 CRC DATA ERROR warning.

If I could I wish I could wipe that warning while keeping the rest of the SMART untouched.. hmmmm help.. Thanks gg and gb and gl,

Those indicate cabling errors; why would you want to remove the value from the SMART output exactly? If you want to sell it i can imagine, though.

Anyway, as long as that value stays the same then it was an occurrence in the past and would no longer cause problems. If it keeps rising then you should replace your cabling.

True firm but fair

We have a RMAed F4 soo I can take that and re image and just give this one to my dad. 😉
