I actually bothered to read the ingredients on a can of Coca Cola tonight after all these years of blissful enjoyment. This stuff is just water and corn syrup. Essentially, I'm drinking liquified CORN! There's not even any refined sugar in it.

Go figure.

For anyone keeping score, the ingredients:
Carbonated Water
High Fructose Corn Syrup --> :Q
Caramel Color
Phosphoric Acid ---> WTF - This doesn't sound too healthy
Natural Flavors :)
Caffeine --> The best part :D

There's been HFCS in anything sweet for quite some time now.

Your stomach is literally filled with acid.

Coke's caffeine content is so low that it might as well be caffeine free.

i'm sure the corn lobby completely backs the sugar lobby in the US. hell, they might put more money into keeping sugar quotas than the sugar lobby does.

I saw this in the paper a few days ago. Apparently, high fructose corn syrup is used to sweeten just about all processed food. Sugar is rarely used anymore. And here, I thought I was all slick by avoiding foods high in sugar content. High fructose corn syrup is actually worse for you than sugar.

Corn syrup is just as bad, or worse, as refined sugar for your body.
Artifical color
Natural Flavors = chemicals that the food industry has petitioned (bribed) the FDA to allow to be called 'natural', but with a capital N. It's a proper name, not a description.

Carbonated pop/soda is horrible for the body. That said, I still drink Dr. Pepper. :(

Sugar is rarely used in the US because we grow tons more corn than sugar cane, so it is cheaper to use our home grown, more common product as much as possible. Coca-cola in India uses real cane sugar, not corn syrup, because they grow a lot of sugar cane and not so much corn.

That is because the soda/candy industry switched to corn syrup after the government imposed price floors on sugar to buy the votes of the sugar farmers.

Soda is classic junk food, not healthy for you in any way except possibly the caffeine in there. But then again, coffee is infinity x better for you.

BTW, if you ever get the opportunity, try one made from cane sugar. It definitely tastes better and doesn't leave a film residue on your tongue. If you're in the Phoenix area, there is the Pop Shop in south Scottsdale. They sell sodas made from cane sugar.

I don't know if what you say is true, but I always laugh when I see something described as natural - as if being natural makes it inherently better than something that is not natural. What is natural anyway? Technically anything we consume is at some level derived from naturally occuring substances, the only difference is how far removed from nature it is.

You beat me to it. I was just going to ask Bibble if it tasted better. I'll have to check that out.

Corn syrup != corn

Google search and three reputable web sites disagree with you.

But it's not liquified corn. It's DERIVED from corn.

If you say corn syrup is basically corn, I can say that rubber is basically oil. Which isn't really true.
stop posting or the hole you dig will get deeper.
