I have a friend who lives there. The beach is very nice, and you can feel the ocean breeze all over town. Other than that there wasn't much to do there (like much of South Florida)

It's pretty much out of the busy city life but a short drive will get you to a busy city.

Summers can be hectic with beach goers.

South Florida is basically anything West Palm south....

I live about where cashman lives. The beaches are nice, but, like yellowperil said, there's not much to do. It's an hour (or less) drive to Orlando and Daytona Beach, and about 3-4 hours to drive to Tampa, Jacksonville, or Miami. Because of it's close proximity to Orlando, it's tourist central during any time of the year, which I think is a big negative. I'm not a fan of fat europeans, whiny kids, and surfers in a place the size of a postage stamp who have no freaking idea how to drive. In some parts, it's kinda nice; in other parts, it's really gaudy tourist crap, usually around where 520 (main East/West route, takes you mainland) meets A1A (north/south beach road, adjacent to US1). The cost of living is pretty cheap and there's no state income tax, which are some advantages.

Since you look like you come from WA, you might like the sunshine, but a lot of the time it rains, or there is really high humidity, contributing to the general mugginess of the area (read: 3 weeks straight in spring for rain, EVERY FREAKING DAY for the humidity between March-December). Winter is pretty damn mild, usually 50-60 during the day. While i'm on weather, we don't get that many hurricanes, and when we do, it's usually not that bad. It's theorized that Cape Canaveral has something to do with it, but it's probably a crap theory. However, being on a barrier island doesn't help your chances if a hurricane does occur.

In my opinion, I wouldn't live there. I like urban areas, not sprawl with random surf shops sporadically placed next to a Walgreens on the beach.

Rain... Well coming from washington I'm used to when it rains for what it seems like a month or so straight.

A lot has changed since then. They have an "I Dream of Jeannie" Way there, I believe. BTW, what job are you going for? Something space-related?
