The acting is top notch.
Watching episode right now. The best part thus far is they address that A) Daniel was the antagonist by stealing Johnny's girl and B) His winning kick was illegal.
2 prevailing fan "theories" over the past 30 years.
Watched half the episodes last night. I dunno why I like it, but I do. I mean it's not the best TV show in the world, but I think they do a good job of being "self aware" and the story, while not new, is actually decently done.
While Johnny is still supposed to be the "bad guy", I'm not quite sure if you're supposed to cheer against him as he's the one training the kids being bullied by the cool kids. They've written him a great "personality" and situation and outlook on the younger generation.
All in all, I think the show is pretty darn good... for what it is.
I finished watching them all, and I know what you mean. You can watch it, admit that it's not going to blow you out of the water, but it's easy to keep watching it. I think it helped that they didn't try to change the characters so much as bring them up to the current age... especially Johnny. You actually get to learn a bit more about him in this. Although, if I had to give the show one black mark, it would probably be that the drama around episodes 7-9 felt like it was teetering dangerously close to The CW line.
All in all, I'm curious to see what they do in the next season.
Wait, is this the same as the "Cobra Kai" that has been advertised for a few months now in theaters? I thought this was a movie that was coming out this summer. It's actually a Youtube series?
Haven't seen any trailer in theaters. It is (and always has been) a YouTube Red series. COMPLETELY recommended.
I saw it in a preview ahead of Infinity War or Black Panther, maybe both. I forget.
By the way, season two has been confirmed for 2019 via a video posting on the YouTube channel.
It could have just been a regional thing. I can't remember if you're in California or NC, but if it's the prior, I could see them advertising a bit more since the show takes place in California.
Having watched the first 2 episodes I'm thinking of doing the trial of youtube Red to watch the rest.
I like how the show is from the perspective of Johnny Lawrence and not Daniel Larusso. If you like season one, you need to wait until May 7, 2019 for season 2. I hope I remember what happened with season one by the time season 2 comes out. Hope they bring back more of the old characters like Terry Silver.I hope everyone watched to the very end of episode 10.John Kreese was a great ending in episode 10.
I learned an interesting fact today:
Pat Morita's age in Karate Kid: 52
Ralph Macchio's age in Cobra Kai: 56
