Office Depot is sizziling with deals this week. They are clearing out their entire selection of GMRS and FRS systems by Motorola and Cobra. This deal is for a 5 mile range walkie talkie kit by Cobra (not the dinky 2 mile ones although they are fun too).

PR 1100-2 WX (features Weather Station and Digital Compass that actually works)

Normally: $119.00
Clearance price: $40:03
MIR: $20.00

Final Price: $20.03

Cobra Product Information (not link to Office Depot)

The scu number is S2556540, but it's on techdepot site, not officedepot.
Link
As you can see the price is $97.95 + $7.95S&H = $116, not $40.
My guess is, it's an in-store deal and only if you are lucky.
Honestly, I'd love to be proven wrong on this one. If that is the case, I'm so all over it :D
Cheers

awesome price!

you'll want to buy nimh batteries and possibly the wall chargers (much more convenient than plain battery charger because you don't have to remove batteries for charging).

bestbuy had a kit earlier in the year for about $35 that includes a vox earpiece (sux), nimh batteries (1600's I think), and 2 chargers. Cobra.com sells the chargers for $11 each.

Was told OOS in Hampton, VA...it'd be easier if we had an Office Depot SKU - anybody?

It's a six-digit number.

Got a couple of the next step down for 30.03 before rebate, and a couple chargers for 8.03. That'll do, pig. ;)

Confirmed the Cobra clearance at several nearby Office Depots (Motorola was still full price).

Picked up the PR 900-2 DX for 23.03 and a $20 rebate printed out for a total of $3.03 (+tax) after rebate. Wanted the PR1100, but I'll settle for this nearly free set.

UPC code for the PR900 pair is 028377904776 (seemed to be pretty plentiful).

UPC code for the PR1100 pair is 028377905193 (couldn't locate any).

Call first and have them put their hands on the radios before you take the time to drive out.

There are no 1100 left in entire Chicago area.
950 on the other hand there are a few in the following stores:
Linocln Ave (Near Devon) store in Chicago
Crystal Lake
Schaumburg
Deerfield
May be others in Western 'burbs as well - different district.
OP, Thanks for posting. I got 2 pairs of 950 at 30.03 each online w/ store pick up & $15 off coupon for net of $9 including tax
Rebate goes ot Walled Lake, so it would be slow but reliable.

So which one to buy, PR900 for $3.03 or PR950 for $10?

While I was at OD, I checked another one (I believe 225-2 with charger base and ear-bud but 2 mile range) also the price is $23 something, Does this model have a rebate?

the FRS225-2VP come with $10.00 MIR

PR900-2 DX come with $20.00

PR950 with $20.00

If you can get the PR1100 get those.. otherwise the PR900/950 are just as good for one exception.. you only pay $3.03 for the 900's

good luck!

Called most SoCal stores in the Pasadena-Covina area. None of them seem to have any PR1100's in stock anymore. It looks like they've either pulled them, have been out of stock for a while, or people snagged them all already. Even the Sepulveda/Victory store was out of stock when I called in the afternoon. Didn't call about the other models though. You might still find a few 900/950's at some stores.

Edit:
Found myself a PR900 pair at one of the OD's apparently there are a few floating around still. I took the second to last pair. Rang up $23.03 before tax. Anyone know how much "better" the range is compared to the 2-mile range ones? I got a pair of clearance Memorex 5 mile but they've got about the same range is the motorola 2 mile.

I am taking them back to store to return tomorrow. One of the radios is not transmitting.
I heard someone else's conversation on the radio on one of the channels and i turned off mine, can i get in trouble for that? can it be traced ?

It is shared specturm which means you are to exercise good jugement when using it. Things like don't transmit while they are transmiting and switch channels if possible to avoid such problems. Actually with the radios should have been a long list of guidelines. (Things like not using obscene language, some usage restrictions, etc) All that said it is open frequency and there really isn't an expectation of privacy. You might want to make sure you read the instruction manual though before you take them back.

Found another PR 1100 in Oxnard, CA .. they had a hard time locating it within the store.. but after waiting 45mins while i shopped there.. they were able to find it..

Anyone looking for these.. try calling OD and have the CSR locate one for you within your near-by counties :p
