Does anyone know any websites that have informations about how much carbon dixiode and other greenhouse gases are release into the atmosphere every year by coal power plants? I tried google, but I cant find anything.

Do you know what's even more interesting?

Power plants have opacity/emission quantity restrictions that can be traded on the open market!

Example: Powerplant A has exceeded it's monthly allotment of emissions. Powerplant B has only used half of it's allotment and doesn't think it will be using the other half. Powerplant B can sell more allotment of emissions to Powerplant A!

how? well, it's simple really. the plants burn coal. burning is a process by which carbon and hydrogen combine with oxygen from the atmosphere, creating lower-energy molecules. the energy released by changing from a higher energy molecule into a lower energy molecule is given off in the form of heat. the lower energy molecules are typically carbon dioxide and water. these are released into the atmosphere.

did you also know that coal powerplants put more radioactive material into the atmosphere than a nuclear powerplant?

and yet they are still more effective (power produced vs polution made) than most cars.

nuke plants should be zero emissions, as far as putting radioactive material into the air.

the really astounding part is that nuke plants produce less radioactive waste in total than a coal plant.

and that isn't even to start counting all the toxic, non-radioactive waste materials that coal pumps into the air.

Interesting info in this thread.

So in reality the reason we don't have more Nuclear power plants is about politics than anything else?

Yep, all this talk about global warming yet we produce 1/2 of our power from burning coal! Ironically, I think the democrats are even worse than republicans about feeding the publics fear of nuclear. France produces 80% of their electricity from nuclear.

Yes. People got scared after The China Syndrome movie, and 3 Mile Island. PLUS, there currently is no SAFE way to dispose of nuc-u-lur waste. Burying and encapsulating it is the current method, which may be ok for short term, but isn't really a good way. Just leaves it for future generations to deal with.

Cars companies do that too...thanks to hybrid cars.

Like the "terrorists" need something else to aim for without having to actually drop a bomb upon us. Just drive a plane down the stack and kaboom

Or we can just have a DISASTER like the Chernobyl one.
