Co2 Pistols - recommendations?

I'm not too comfortable with the idea of owning a high powered gun that would most likely kill anyone I shot at, but...after being chased by 5 jocks a couple days ago, and having the absolutely horrifying experience of driving by a guy on the sidewalk flashing everyone, I'm thinking that I might want to keep a Co2 Pistol in my car.
But I know nothing about guns. Mostly it would be for looks (you know, pull it out and they back off), like I said I really don't think I could kill someone.
I also don't want to spend a lot of money...under $50 ideally.
So, any suggestions?
 
Airsoft to the rescue

There pistols look pretty damn good, and high powered (I think... the electric ones) as far as BB guns go. If you really wanna chase someone off though, get a PELLET rifle. Pellets hurt more than BBs.

Damn just noticed the Co2 ones are expensive...was looking at the electric and springers...hmm I'll have a look around...
 
I'm not too sure about the legality of carrying even a co2 pistol in your car, but if you're looking for a realistic looking air pistol without spending $100+ look into Gamo guns. I own a Gamo P-23 which is a direct copy of the Sig P230. Or if you like glocks, you can get the auto-45.

dumbest thing you could do. you can go to jail, or end up dead. you pull that out and then what if they have a real one? self defense on their part, you escalated it. if you dont have the balls to keep a real one and know when to use it, that's fine, but please dont get a pretend one. just a bad idea all around, and i cant see any good coming of it. you can check the forums at airsoft zone. they have many topics on this with real life stories. lots of links to local papers where people have been killed for pretending they have a real gun to scare off a criminal, only to be shot.

From what I understand about the law when it comes to self defense, you can use a gun if you have been threatened and someone has made it clear that they intend to inflict physical harm. You cannot use lethal force (i.e. a real gun) unless your life has been threatened.

I'm not entirely sure if one can keep a gun in their car legally, I will have to check into that, but air pistols are not highly regulated, and I don't think it falls under the concealed weapon category.

If some jackass jock starts beating on my car, chances are he didn't have a gun or he would've been using that instead. My other mode of self defense would be to run him over - which is better?

i need to go back and read up, but i was thinking that it can be used whether it is physical harm or life threatening. i mean hell what are you suposed to do, sit by and let some guy beat the dogsnot outta ya? im pretty sure that lethal force could be used, and im ashamed to admit i cant remember 🙁 im in texas btw.

co2 stuff and airsoft arent classified as weapons, they are under compressed air something. that's for customs anyway (i read into all that when importing airsoft stuff from hong kong so i would know what to put on the slip), i would assume this would be the same for state laws. i dont think you would get in any trouble there. just be smart with it and dont make anyone suspicious like a cop if you are pulled over.

chances are are you willing to take that chance though? i can just think of so many bad situations, i dont know what to do either. i mean what if it doesnt scare him off, and he keeps agressing? you shoot him and he just laughs, or worse yet, you injure him and he sues you. dead men tell no tales.

i dont know what i would do if someone was beating on my car or something like that, not really causing me harm, just being an ass. louisiana passed a law so that you can kill someone if they are trying to steal your car (this was several years ago, unknown if it is still in effect). kinda crazy, i dont think it's worth killing someone over.

it's a difficult topic to decide what to do, and has been debated a bazillion times on those forums. but what is usually seen is that people are arrested, or cause more harm to themselves than they prevent. wish i could be more help, but it's not something to think lighty about. definately take a long time to think this through before making your decision.
 
It would be real stupid to keep a toy gun in your car or on your body. That would most likely get you arrested or killed, according to the circumstances.

If you want something for self defense get you a little Smith & Wesson .38. You can pick up a used one for about $150. You won't hafta worry about killing someone unless you think they are gonna harm you and then you make a choice...duh.

I have seen several people shot with 38s and none of them died as a result of it. You can knock a man down with one at the length of a bus.

We use to shoot eachother with 'em. Besides shooting their eye out, a CO2 pistol ain't gonna do jack schiet.

Carry a 9mm, like a 92FS. Easier to get ammo for, compared to a .38, plus have more knock down power. Get a permit to carry concealed. Someone threatens your life, pop 'em. If you HAVE to use a gun in self defense, USE IT. If you want to impress your friends with your L33t Airsoft SkIlLZ, then do that later. Some meathead/crackhead comming at you with a pellet in his ass and an intent to beat and crush your skull into oblivion is not a person you want to check the stopping power of a lead pellet made to penetrate paper.

I carry a Desert Eagle .50 cal and a 1911 in the car. I carry a 92FS on my person. I live in a VERY good neighborhood, way out in the boonies. Someone tries to steal my truck, they can have it. Someone tries to steal my stuff, they can have it. Someone fuks with my family or myself with an intent to cause harm, I pitty them.
 
I would say carry a paintball gun... those things hurt, but aren't fatal... aim for the face and whoever is chasing you won't be chasing you anymore.. instead they will be on the ground crying out in pain wiht paint splattered all over them.
 
Moo, some stupid jocks got pissed at me for flashing my lights at them (they had their brights on when they shouldn't, I just signaled them to let them know), chased me in their car, and it took a lot to get away from them. Not likely to happen again, but I feel I need some way to protect myself. In that situation I would not have ended up having to pull out a weapon because I was able to get away, but if they had pursued even more aggressively, there really wouldn't have been anything I could do. We're talking 5 jocks, I'm one guy.

I would *not* pull out a weapon unless absolutely necessary.

Monel Funkawitz - that's the whole point, I don't want to cause permanent fatal damage. Though I suppose if they kept coming and I had a Co2 gun, if I actually did shoot at them it would probably just piss them off more. hm. Really don't want to have a "real" gun though.

Truculent, I actually thought of that too, but I don't think paintball guns come in pistol form??

Anyway if I don't end up keeping this in my car (since it seems to be a general consensus that that's a bad idea), I might want something to play with for target practice, my girlfriend lives on a farm and it would be real easy to go out to a field and shoot at cans or something stupid like that.
