Co-workers using monitors at 60hz refresh rates

I was having some network problems today, so I had to go work at someones PC that was out today. The guy had his refresh rate set to 60hz so everything was blurry and you could practically see the screen flickering (not the greatest monitors to begin with). How the heck can anyone work like that? No wonder he's out sick, I'd have a raging headache by the end of the day if I had to look at that for any extended period of time.

That reminded me of several other people that I've worked with in the past that similarly have ridiculously low refresh rates set. I'd go over to their desk to help them with something and I feel like just slapping them when I see their screen flickering away. A couple times I've asked if that doesn't bother them and they seem oblivious to it.

Anyone else run into this or am I just unusually sensitive to low refresh rates?

Yep, all the CRTs at work are on 60Hz

Luckily we're rolling out TFTs slowly, so that helps, but they don't seem to care!

Then when we do put 15" TFT's there, they still run it in 800x600 ("it's too small in that other size") but they don't worry about the fact that it's blurry as hell

Yea, 60 Hz gives most people headaches. But most people dont know that's why they are getting the headache.

We all use the 21" Sony P1110 at work and 99% of people are running at 1024x768x60Hz

What a waste :disgust:

Seems to depend on the monitor too... I have an old Compaq 17 inch for my 2nd computer that has a refresh rate of 60 Hz and I don't see any flickering from it. But if I set this Samtron to 60 Hz, I can definately see flicker.

I've noticed that things get blurrier at higher refresh rates.

At 60hz, everything on monitors I use looks sharper, but the flickering just kills my brain and I get migranes.

I can bear 70-75Hz when needed. I regularly use mine at 85 or 100Hz. A couple of years ago, 60Hz was OK, too, but not any more.
