Co-worker and his trash..

Co-worker in the cube across from me keeps throwing his leftover food in his trash can... I keep telling him not to do it and instead to throw it in the main cafeteria trash bin.

He throws like left over beans and rice and other crap and if it was the summer it would attract bugs and whatever, luckily its winter time but its becoming a habit for him.

Anyone have problems like this at work.

I just went ahead and put his trash bin on top of his desk so he gets the point again.
 
Man, we have a dude at our main office that did that in the bathroom trashcans, along with his tobacco "dip". He missed the can one day and hit the wall with some beans, and didn't even bother to clean it.

So we held a company meeting to address the "Food in the trashcan issue" but it apparently did no good as he didn't get the fact that we meant him. Guess we'll have to get specific with his dumb ass.

this came up in another thread and that lawyer guy said that dumping the body in a volcano (like into a lava flow) would prevent the collection of any DNA evidence
 
It's not your place to discipline your coworker.
Also taking matters into your own hands and putting his trashcan on his desk can easily result in bad things for you.
If I was him I would go right to the bossman about you taking matters into your own hands and you should do the same about the food in the trashcan.

On a sidenote, what kind of crappy company do you work for that doesn't have a cleaning service empty all the trashcans daily or every other day?

When I was in cube land I had a guy in a nearby cube who objected to my throwing my empty diet coke cans in my trash can. We had voluntary recycling and when I had time I would walk over to the kitchen recycle bins but when under time pressure (almost all the time) I just tossed them in the trash can under my desk.

At first he just made annoying side comments, but then moved directly to putting my trash can on my desk.

So I fired him.

I did that once. It was a friday after noon and I ordered some chinese food. I don't remember what i got, but I left it over the weekend. On monday morning i got to work a little late and i noticed that all the windows were opened and the the fan was on at full blast. Needless to say, the whole office smelt like sh!t. I got in a little trouble and my boss called me smelly for the day.🙂

Do you not have enough work to do that you have time to observe your cube neighbor's habits and decide to be the cube farm police?

Seriously, the person that makes the most noise about others loses favor in a company quickly.

Just start defecating in your trash can. When he complains about the smell, just say that the bathroom is to far away.
 
as others said, unless you are his supervisor, it is not your place to say anything to him. Mention it to your boss if you really have a problem with it. They will address it if they agree.

I'll agree that taking this type of stuff to the boss is a little bit much. If I was the boss, I'd be disappointed if my employees couldn't work something like this out on their own.

The can on the desk thing is just asking for trouble.

The insect comment bothers me too. We have air conditioners at my work place. I've never seen a bug in here. If bugs do start coming around, then it'd be time to complain. The complaint would be about the bugs and not the guy... let someone else conclude that the guy is the problem.

To summarize, it's not your place to discipline your coworker. Killing him, chopping him up into pieces, and storing him in your trunk, however, is within your right.
