Does anyone use a cnr based sound card? Is it any good? What the heck is the purpose of the cnr slot, why not just have another PCI slot? Specifically I was looking at upgrading the onboard sound of my ECS K7S5A and was looking at getting the following at newegg: Hercules CNR Sound Card: SC-Core Digital Sound Card (6 Channels + SP/DIF + In) - OEM Version. It seems pretty cool for $19 and I was thinking if I could find something to put in that slot I might as well use it. Or is there a reason not to? Also anyone know If I disable my onboard sound if my onboard joystick port will still work? Thanks.

Also, am I reading correctly that there are 2 types of cnr slots. One for Interl chipsets and one for other chipsets and that the pinout is different?

You must mean AMR and CNR?

If so, they are just OEM slots for things like modems, sound cards and network cards.

No, AMR and CNR are different. I was reading at Intel.com trying to find information and they said that there are two different pinouts for cnr slots. One for Intel chipsets and one for all others. That just seems crazy to me.

Dude, I was looking into the same thing earler this week.

The bad news is all those Hercules CNR sound cards are only for Intel 815 chipset motherboards. Go to the Hercules website and look up those CNR sound cards. they're only for intel boards. Which really sucks

That would be a cheap 6 channel sound card. Oh well

By for now.
