Wow... I guess it's begun. The admin said 'if you want to go, go now;' and now we find out who wants to go.

More details coming... right now, CNN just has the headline.

Will the demise of this set of Republican puppets help?

Or is this part of the Republican stragety for re-election?

4-19-2006 White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan announces resignation

4-19-2006 McClellan Leaves White House Press Office

Bush said McClellan had "a challenging assignment."

"I thought he handled his assignment with class, integrity," the president said. "It's going to be hard to replace Scott, but nevertheless he made the decision and I accepted it. One of these days, he and I are going to be rocking in chairs in Texas and talking about the good old days."

Maybe he realized he is on a sinking ship and wanted to get off before it was too late?

Either that or got tired of spewing the lies of this admin to the American people.

wowsers... he just said yesterday that he wouldn't speculate on personal matters when asked if he was thinking about leaving

CBS got it's story up first:

McClellan Out, Rove Leaves Policy Post

(AP) WASHINGTON In another move in an ongoing shakeup of President Bush's staff, longtime confidant and adviser Karl Rove is giving up oversight of policy development to focus more on politics with the approach of the fall midterm elections, a senior administration official said Wednesday. White House spokesman Scott McClellan also said he's resigning.

Appearing with Bush on the White House South Lawn just before the president boarded a helicopter at the start a trip to Alabama, McClellan, who has parried especially fiercefully with reporters on Iraq and on intelligence issues, told Bush: "I have given it my all sir and I have given you my all sir, and I will continue to do so as we transition to a new press secretary."

Just over a year ago, Rove was promoted to deputy chief of staff in charge of most White House policy coordination. That new portfolio came on top of his title as senior adviser and role of chief policy aide to Bush.

But now, the job of deputy chief of staff for policy is being given to Joel Kaplan, now the White House's deputy budget director, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the president had not yet made the announcement.

The move signals a possibly broad effort to rearrange and reinvigorate Bush's staff by new chief of staff Joshua Bolten. Bolten moved into his position last week; Kaplan was his No. 2 person at the Office of Management and Budget.

At least for the time being, the promotion of Kaplan would leave Bush with three deputy chiefs of staff: Rove, Kaplan and Joe Hagin, who oversees administrative matters, intelligence and other national security issues.

I would think the intention is to eliminate the entire position. The press has joined Al Quaeda and we don't negotiate with terrorists.

FOX News' Tony Snow Among Possible White House Spokesman Candidates

WASHINGTON ? With a few personnel shifts going on in the White House, there's speculation that presidential spokesman Scott McClellan may be looking to step down.

One of the people the White House has approached as a possible replacement for McClellan is FOX News Radio host Tony Snow. The White House discussed the possibility with Snow as recently as this week.

Snow, who hosts "The Tony Snow Show," once served as a speechwriter for President George H.W. Bush.

Other people have also been approached about the position, including former Pentagon spokeswoman Victoria Clark and Dan Senor, the former Coalition Provisional Authority spokesman in Iraq, who served the U.S. civil administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer.

McClellan, who has been press secretary for two years, refuses to speculate about his own future. But he has acknowledged that he has held the job for "a long time."

A spokesman switch would come as new White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten is looking to solidify a staff by meeting with all personnel members individually about their futures in the Bush administration.

Tony Snowjob, eh? Perfect fit, I say. One more known liar to join the cirucs that is the White House.

tony would be a good replacement, but if i was him i wouldn't take the job. radio talk show and fox news is a good gig, pays well... not sure you could pay me enough to have to put up with snobs like david gregory (who called scott m. a jerk during a conference) and helen (the face that sunk a thousand ships) thomas.

but again, tony is a cool and collected guy, even the dems should respect that.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Scott.

And watch out for Helen Thomas in dark alleys -- you won't have secret service any more.

Looks like things are changing for Rove too, albeit not in the same "get out of the White House" fashion...

Also, a senior administration official revealed another move in the ongoing shakeup of Bush's staff, saying that longtime confidant and adviser Karl Rove is giving up oversight of policy development to focus more on politics with the approach of the fall midterm elections.

Just replace McClennan with an 'expert' like Rush. God knows Rush has had the pratice when it comes to spin and misdirection 🙂

Replacements being bandied about for Scotty are:

Victoria Clarke (Pentagon spokeswoman that's just as bad as Lawrence DiRita...in other words, very McClellanesque...a la Baghdad Bob), Dan Senor (advisor to Paul Bremer), Paul Bremer (the guy in charge of Iraq right after the invasion), and FOX News' Tony Snow.

ooof

But, the bigger news is Rove will no longer be in charge of policy at the WH and, instead, will focus on pandering to the bigots and pseudo-Christians of the FAR-FAR-FAR radical right.

that would be too funny

This administration is a fcking joke. They talk out of both sides of their mouth's, saying there won't be anyone leaving, then the rats scurry out. Makes me sick to be a citizen. I loathe them all.

Not to mention it wouldn't make the Fox News motto (Fair and Balanced) look any more true.
