That's unfortunate. Even if you don't agree with his theories, I think he did help many people to lose weight.

That's horrible

He was hospitalized for falling on ice last week. It had nothing to do with his diet. What kind of incondierate bastard are you to append 'Dr. Atkins died" with some sort of grateful statement? The man achieved more in his life than you ever will.

May be rest in peace. He revolutionized way a good percentage of the western world eats.

IIRC, Atkins had heart problems his whole life (sort of a genetic thing) and frankly is lucky to have lived this long. His diet probably prolonged his life.

Because you MUST do it properly, or it WILL be very unhealthy. If you don't follow it correctly, which many people don't, its quite bad for you.

Why? His diet actually worked.

It worked in that it made people lose weight. I, and most members of the medical community, don't think completely cutting carbohydrates out of your diet to be healthy.

That's their fault, not his. The way I see atkins diet: you get your carbs from veggies and fruits as opposed to sugar and starches. Nothing wrong there.

You think eating high fat meats and tons of colesterol prolonged his life, and didn't have anything to do with his heart condition?

lol...you're just a smidge uneducated. read his book before you make statements like that. just because some people do the diet unresponsibly doesn't mean it's the way he meant it to be done

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Dr. Robert Atkins, creator of the high-protein, low-carbohydrate Atkins Diet, died Thursday after an accidental fall on April 8 left him comatose.
Yeah, dead not related to the diet at all.

My guess is the original poster knew this but though he would make a misleading topic anyway.

that's pretty offensive. i hope you get banned for it.
It wasn't offensive at all, you're oversensitive.

Agreed. It's sad that he died. But his diet really is no good in the long run as many doctors have proclaimed repeatedly.

I haven't read the book, but I have read what it is about. Here are some quotes from a yahoo news aricle about his death. Article here

"Atkins first advocated his unorthodox weight-loss plan ? which emphasizes meat, eggs and cheese and discourages bread, rice and fruit"

"On the Atkins diet, up to two-thirds of calories may come from fat ? more than double the usual recommendation, and violating what medical professionals have long believed about healthy eating"

For one, vegetable protiens IMO are heathly than animal proteins, based on the impact they have on your body. That opinion varies on who you talk with, or what books you read. Diary based products are something humans were never meant to eat in the first place. About the only good parts of his diet plans health wise are nuts and veggies. I know this flame war has been beaten to death before on here, so won't waste anymore of your time with it.

and then you have to admit that the medical community really has no clue how foods and the body work together. and it wasn't cutting out carbs, it was figuring out how many carbs you needed to maintain your ideal weight. sheesh you don't even know what the diet was or how it worked how do you hope to criticize it?

Compared to whey and animal protein, soy is biologically worthless. You are coming off as if you are BSing this entirely, so I amg oing to go with Kami and tell you to either STOP POSTING or read the book. How can you even remotely think that your ideology can be more accuraate than a doctor's who spent 40 years of his life proving why his diet worked?
