LOL, this just smacks of Gulf war I when the Iraqi's surrendered to the news crews. Hah, CNN- We don't just report news we achieve military objectives as well!

CNN convoy comes under fire in Saddam's Tikrit

BAGHDAD, April 13 (Reuters) - CNN correspondent Brent Sadler and his convoy of seven vehicles came under fire on Sunday when they entered Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit.

Live television footage shot by CNN had shown Sadler and his team passing through the northern outskirts of the northern Iraqi town which appeared deserted and abandoned.

But when they ran a checkpoint near the city centre, shooting erupted and his team headed out of the town, apparently unscathed. CNN security advisers returned fire but one of the vehicles was hit but no one hurt.

The town of 200,000 people, the last major Iraqi town not yet controlled by U.S. forces, still appeared to be under the control of Iraqi forces.

"It is the first time in my 25 years as a war correspondent that I have come under such close, deliberate fire," Sadler said. "That was a pretty ugly moment."

Now CNN are willing to kill people to get news. This after covering up Saddams crimes.

God yeah, they're nuts. They heard from some teacher that the soldiers have left the city, so they decided to go in and check. Go in, and then get ambushed and shot at.

LOL! Do you have stock in a different tv station or something?

I guess I'll repeat myself then.

Self-defense isn't murder. If the enemy fired first, you've got a basic human right to shoot back.

Of course, the leftists in this country would convince you otherwise.

"Apparently unscathed?" Actually, one of the drivers apparently had a minor head wound, but is okay

There trying to "take Saddams hometown" There trying tomake news. If they were ambushed by people trying to kidnap or steal from them it is self defence.

Right now there out looking for trouble with mercs.

I'm willing to bet if this was Oliver North with Geraldo you'd be patting them on the back and calling them patriots.

I'm not disputing their right to self-defense, but those guys really had no business being there on their own, even before US troops. It just goes against common sense. They should leave things like going into enemy terrirtory to the professionals.

Any embedded reporter would have a right to me there. Including from CNN, MSNBC or any other TV or print organisation.

This is CNN with Mercs.

edit: Next thing you know CNN is going to run a US military checkpoint and get themselves killed while there mercs try to kill US troops.

CNN isn't a military force. It can't "take" anything. It can take pictures, and video - But it can't actually secure a piece of land for anyone.

CNN is civilians, and as much as I despise the Communist News Network, I'll admit that it takes a lot of balls to drive into a war zone, cameras rolling, all in the name of breaking a headline.

HOWEVER: It is not an inherently hostile action. Period. If you've lost so many neurons to the brainwashing by your fascist liberal handlers to not recognize that point, there's no use speaking to you. Your mind is dead to us.

I think you make a very good point....

Maybe you should actually watch something before commenting on it, because you sound extremely ignorant. They didn't 'run' any checkpoint. They always drove up to the checkpoints, and the guards let them through... even one of the checkpoints, the guards told them not to film them, and they obeyed. At one checkpoint, they got ambushed.

And it's normal for media to be in 'enemy territory' during war. How did you think we got to see all those shots of Baghdad?

According to CNN, Pentagon says something like "it's incredibly dangerous to be traveling as a unilateral journalist" in unsecured areas....

Being in Iraq right now is very dangerous.

Anyways, lets get back onto Tikrit and stop the silly news channel squabbling. I found it extremely astonishing that Tikrit is basically a ghost town. Of course there are still some soldiers but all those tanks and military vehicles were abandoned. The US could probably roll in there with a few tanks and take the city.
