CNN: Sniper slipped through the law's fingers on Monday Morning in Ashland

UNCjigga

Lifer
Apparently, the Sniper made a call from that gas station less than 10 minutes before agents swarmed in and arrested those two Mexicans. Officials are blaming each other for the missed opportunity.

CORRECTION: Apparently communication between the local Ashland/county authorities and the Sniper task force was too slow...everyone was setup but the "go" call came too late.

Really? You are involved in this investigation? It is quite clear that the only people who know anything about this investigation are the people doing it. You have no idea how it is being led and you have no right to call it a circus affair. Nothing like this has ever happened before, and I know for a fact that the FBI, ATF, and the sniper task force are doing anything and everything they can to forward the investigation. If you are talking about the leaked evidence, well, that is the fault of the local police, not the org.'s playing out the investigation.

The fact that at least 4 people have died since the full investigation kicked in just shows this is a huge folly. Making bargains with this guy? Relaying messages for him over international TV? It's a joke. The feds should step in and kick the hick cops off the case. No deals, no messages, no bargains. Surrender or we will get you. Game over. If one more person is shot I will have lost all faith in our legal system.

I can understand not being able to find a 8-foot tall guy with a white turban and a big long beard in a desert

but this?

Maybe you should contact the police force working on this case and help them out since you've obviously got a better grasp on the situation than they do.

I am just saying, what good does it do making deals and relaying messages over CNN? No deals, no dice.

And I suppose you have a degree in criminal negotiating? That is like me commenting on metaphysics. It's not your field buddy.

Maybe they should just invite him to a poker game to discuss the situation

When the guy doesn't give you a number or a way to communicate with him, then WTF do you expect the authorities to do?

Dont need one. It's obvious. The sheriff talks to him over CNN. The next day someone dies. What good does it do? Black and white to me.

Is it worth not trying? If they never said anything to the sniper through CNN you'd probably be saying that the reason he shot again was because they didn't try to contact him. And that they should have tried to negotiate with him.

On the flip-side do you know if it's doing more harm than good? I don't you, you don't know. I am just tired of us placating him.

Before they started communicating, 9 people were killed (IIRC).

Seems that not communicating with him didn't work....

From what we know so far, the letters found at the crime sites which are thought to be from the sniper leave phone numbers and such to try and get in contact with him/them, whatever. So they are doing their best to try to open up more lines of communication with the killer. And any criminal investigator will tell you, as soon as you have the guy on the phone, he is as good as done.

Screw it, no use arguing over it. We can all agree that we want this scumbag caught ASAP. Hopefully this WA thing will pan out.

The investigation is NOT a circus. However, 24/7 media coverage is making this look like a circus. I think its ridiculous to come home, turn on the news and what do I see? Its some dude's backyard in Washington state. Okay fine. Five minutes later, same thing. Ten minutes, same. Twenty, thirty, forty minutes of some dude's backyard. ENOUGH!!!! Put it in your file footage, move on, and come back to the press conference (if there is one) later! DON'T JUST SIT THERE!

Oh yeah, if I recall correctly, the Sniper Task Force already includes FBI, CIA, ATF, Homeland Security, military intelligence, local, county & state police.

I was impressed that the sniper mentioned in his letter(s) that he called the hotline several times & got hung up on, and then mentioned the officers who hung up on him by name.

Well they said that the ATF and the FBI were in Tacoma WA today, and said the sniper task force wouldn't be coming in at the time. So I assumed they were 2 seperate entities.

Sounds like the investigation is going as planned.

The only people who know the DETAILS of the investigation know anything about it. And it is very safe to say the agencies involved are doing everything possible to solve this case, because that is what they are payed to do.
