Mumbai, India (CNN) -- At least 13 people were killed and more than 100 others injured Wednesday in a series of explosions that rocked congested areas of India's financial capital, Mumbai, according to Prithviraj Chavan, the state's chief minister.
Chavan said it was too early to talk about suspects but at least one of the blasts was "quite powerful." He warned the death toll could rise.

I agree with P. Chavan that the death toll is likely to keep rising, as the bombings were well planned and executed. Beyond that all else is somewhat meaningless speculation at this point.

Normally I would agree with that statement. However, in this case, I don't see any other possibility besides Islamic terrorists. It was different with say, Oklahoma city, where people jumped to conclusions about Islamic terrorists when there were other possibilities. Why would Hindus bomb Mumbai? Were the explosions some sort of accident?

WTF is this rule against "speculation"? Half of the posts in P&N are speculation. Fuck, every damned post LL makes about the world bitch slapping Israel any day now is speculation. Does that mean I can lobby the mods to censor his posts now?

Statistically speaking, it's Muslims, or one of their fanatical subsects. This is based off years of Muslims using explosives in highly-populated areas as a means to deter other religions, and those they perceive as a threat to their ideals. Given the years of tension between the Islamic and Hindu religion, it is extremely likely the ones behind this are trying to "spread the love" of Islam in the only way they can get anyone to buy into their faith: extreme and unprovoked violence.

A home-grown Islamist terrorist group, the Indian Mujahideen (IM), is suspected to be behind the three moderate to high intensity explosions in Mumbai Wednesday which Home Minister P. Chidambaram said were "coordinated attack by terrorists".

The IM had owned up to a series of blasts in various cities across the country in 2008. It is believed to be a shadow organisation of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

I would never speculate myself because I believe speculation is one of the most horrifyingly evil things imaginable, but I present this information as I found it.

Honestly, this is pretty silly. Mods, I think we all get that you're attempting to facilitate something positive here, but Corn's right - 99% of what happens here is speculation. To literally edit out people's words in exactly one case of such is a pretty bad precedent.

Just goes to show that it's impossible to do right by the members of the AnandTech Forums. ;)
