i hope i spelled that right.
this was on last night and the woman from j&j (i think) said that women ovulate twice a month.
now, she didnt seem to specify what percentage of the female population did this...but
my question is: all things considered, wouldn't women all ready know this to be true, if it were?

(this kind of reminds me when all those studies came out claiming that PMS was all psychosomatic)

I think we've had evidence of this for awhile (according to other articles) talking about how imperfect the 'rhythm method' is.

My own personal evidence . . . my wife is Catholic and and like a lot of people we've personally been using birth control for years even though it's against official Church policy. Before we were married we had to go to this couples weekend getaway where we met with other engaged couples and were counseled by married Catholic couples. One of the big topics of course was family planning. The married couples that counseled us were all espousing the Rhythm Method instead of other forms of birth control. When it was time for Q&A I asked them each how many children they had (not trying to be a jerk because we had covered other topics about families as well.) Their responses were 5 children for one couple and 7 for the other. :Q And I couldn't help, but notice a similar trend among a lot of the hard-line Catholic families I know. We want kids eventually (very soon actually), but I'm not going to trust a system that obviously doesn't seem to work.

yeah, i would never trust that system myself.

but what i really mean is:

women have known forever what is going on with their bodies

now, of course, there is a lot more educational stuff out there but i know that women knew all this before, even if it was just an instincual knowledge of what is going on.
however, ive read nothing from women who usually take the holisitic route (who very much talk about being concious of their rhythm, etc) to suggest that women ovulate more than once a month.
why is that?

Ovulation twice a month? I don't think so.

i agree...becuase i believe that women would already have known this.
but how can you so quickly know that is it not true?

i was kinding hoping for a female perspective of this.

From what i understand from readin another article about this somewhere, not every woman can feel when they are ovulating, and apparently between that and conventional wisdom that always said menstruation==ovulation (meaning it should only happen once a month) no one really listened to the women who said that they could feel ovulation happening more than once...until now, i guess. It seems like its kind of like how with men, orgasm!=ejaculation

Not really. I mean, they have a good feeling about what is going on, but they certainly don't know to any absolute. Same goes for men about their own bodies.

The study only used 63 women which is a pretty small scope. However, 13 of them had multiple ovulations, and of the remaining 50, twenty of them had multiple waves of follicular activity, but hormone changes didn't match the follicular changes, which could be why women can't really tell this is going on.

Nonetheless, it could explain failures in the "rhythm method" and coupled with more extensive research could totally change birth control methods.

well, i meant generally, not specifically.
i am suggesting that women, for centuries having to rely only on themselves for valid information concerning their bodies, are quite an authority on the subject. ergo: it should have come up earlier than 2003.

i do agree with what was said above, that maybe they were not listened to. great comparision with the o:ejac thing.

Well, for one, women menstruate appx every 28 days, so I guess you could say that's more than once a month, unless you count all months like February. I do believe a woman can ovulate more than once a month, and no, the rhythm method can't be entirely reliable.
