From here: http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/12/...hway.pileup/index.html

"Heavy snow continued to fall during the afternoon, and Glaser said her typical 4-minute-drive to work Sunday morning on smaller roads had taken her more than an hour."

4 minutes is about 0.067 hours.

ASSUMPTION: that on a normal day, she averaged 25 km/h getting to work (stop signs, traffic, etc.).

Then 0.067 hours x 25 km / hour = 1.675 km

So she lives about 1.675 km away from her home.

1.675 km / "more than an hour" (~70 minutes) ~= 0.0239 km/min = 23.9 m/min = 0.399 m/s = 40 cm/s

FORTY CENTIMETERS PER SECOND?

How could she POSSIBLY go that slow on average ALL the way to work?? Even in intense snow, unless she got STCUK IN A RUT for most of that time, which she didn't say on CNN.
