CNN is rated as the best known television news source among the small, USA-based group of rednecks the surveyors bothered to ask.

Sounds about right to me. But for actual factual ratings, FOX is watched more than CNN- they're the #1 news network now. Hannity & Colmes regularly beats out Larry King in viewership, and they're not even FOX's flagship program (O'Reilly is, who blows the doors off everyone).

Which goes to prove that credibility has nothing to do with popularity.

CNN? Hell no! BBC is number 1, and for Canadians, CBC is really fair and balanced as well.

Isn't CNN the chanell that reported that 50, 000 are estimated to be dead on September 11?

Not surprisingly, there is a partisan dimension to evaluations of media credibility. Republicans tend to be more skeptical of most media sources, with the notable exception of the Fox News Cable Channel. For example, 45% of Democrats say they believe all or most of what they see on CNN, compared with 32% of Republicans, and there is a similar credibility gap with respect to the network evening news programs. Republicans and Democrats, however, are equally likely to say Fox News is credible (28% and 27%, respectively).

Credible??? dunno about that. More a US Propaganda channel, certainly not independent. Thats my experience with CNN. BBC is much more credible in my eyes....

CNN is trash. It is more of a tabloid news channel than anything else. I watch it now, not to hear the news, but to be constantly "entertained" by the flashy images, loud sounds, sex, violence and sensationalism.

CNN sucks along with the other news agencies.

Perhaps you are thinking of CNN headline news? Different channel than CNN.
