CNN is rated as the most credible television news source

A new Pew survey finds little change in the public's assessment of the credibility of individual news organizations over the past two years. Once again, CNN is rated as the most credible television news source, with 37% giving it the top grade for believability (down from 42% in 1998). The Wall Street Journal rates nearly as high: 33% say they can believe most or all they read in that newspaper. Only 21% say the same about their own local paper.

There's some other interesting results found here.

...and here as well.

I don't see how anyone can take CNN seriously any more given that all the new "young, fresh and hip" anchors they've brought onboard recently are collectively about as smart as Jell-O. I have some friends who do camera work for CNN and they have endless "OMG, you won't believe what the stupid anchors did today" stories. It's pathetic.

BBC or CBC are the most credible to me.

Back when CNN stuck to a mostly news format I considered them as credible, but they have way too many boring "hype up the days events" type talk shows now. :frown:

I have to agree with you on that.

Yup. And that's because those shows get ratings and bring in more expensive advertising rates than just straight 24-hour news. That's the same reason MTV hardly shows any videos anymore. Ratings indicate people would rather watch other pretty people sit around in lavish houses and bicker about their feelings (aka Real World.)

CNN is trash. It is more of a tabloid news channel than anything else. I watch it now, not to hear the news, but to be constantly "entertained" by the flashy images, loud sounds, sex, violence and sensationalism.

CNN sucks along with the other news agencies.

TV in general is trash. I use mine to play games and watch movies on.
I don't think I've actually sat down and watched a full show other than The Tonight Show or Conan in months.

Agreed. I despise CNN, and the new anchors are a JOKE. I was watching it yesterday (only because my University doesn't get FOX News Channel, but that will change soon) and was just watching in disbelief at how fake they are. But them aside, the Clinton News Network has got a lot of things going against them. Ted Turner as CEO for one.

cable news is garbage, guess who owns the cable networks? that's right, big corporations. The net is the best source, if you fish around and read news from some different places. You have to get some different countries perspectives because the american media along with most any other is biased, at least to a degree.

I like CNN Headline news but I don't like any of the cable news channels. Too many talk shows.

But I can see why people think its a credible source.

Never rely on a single source for news, even if some survey claims it to be the most credible. Always use multiple sources.

I'm glad to see many of you understand how TV and cable news is deteriorating. Print media is much better.

i usually just use the ATOT news service, but of course a lot of that has the bias of whoever happens to post the article.

So, how did BBC rank? IMO BBC is far more credible than CNN is! To me at least, it seems that BBC has journalistic integrity, whereas CNN tries to be popular, at the expense of the quality of their news.

CNN is rated as the best known television news source among the small, USA-based group of rednecks the surveyors bothered to ask.

That sums it up nicely- well said. I'm not sure where the BBC ended up, but they are a very credible source. Good content and coverage.

And what about AP, Reuters, UPI, and other real agencies? Do they count or are they just 'suppliers'? Never really understood that part... but they ARE the backbone of the news industry.
