CNN has Merck jurors on!

They guy died of clogged arteries so he obviously did not take care of himself, but I guess Merck has to pay because he took the drug at one time and is now dead...even if the drug had no relevance to his death. Juries are stupid, jugges are getting more stupid, companies are getting severely shafted, LAWYERS are getting rich, and YOU and I are paying for all of this. Does it not make you angry?

Actually he died of an irregular heart beat. In all likelyhood he died of natural causes from a pre-existing condition, not from Vioxx. This was regarded as the "weakest" case against Merck but the plantiffs filed in an extremely friendly jurisdiction in Texas. There are several areas in Texas that are quite friendly to trial lawyers and these types of cases.

Concur

And the guy was on Vioxx for 9 months if memmory serves me correct.

What ever happened to reasonable doubt? Is this some sort of special case?

This was a civil suit not criminal suit. Thats why there was a verdict with a 10-2 split. You dont have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt in civil cases.
