WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Authorities have found what they call the largest tunnel running into the United States along the U.S.-Mexican border.

...

Made of concrete, the passageway had lighting, electricity, ventilation and a pump to remove water, said Lauren Mack, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Does the US Border Patrol not use seismic acivity meters??? Hello!!! Can there be a better PIPELINE for drugs and illegals to come through?

If it's hand dug, siesmic isn't going to pick it up in an idenfitifiable way. They do have ground penetrating radar trucks but IMO they don't even use them or they would find these things long before they get to a stage where they could reach the US. Lets be honest, the administration in power right now has no interest in making our border secure.

Can they risk the pissed off redneck vote either? Let's face it, the conservatives and the Republicans in this country have been betrayed by Bush on (at least) two key issues: border control/illegal immigration and fiscally-responsible spending in Congress.

Sad reality isn't it. Just another example of the government doing what's in their best interest and not that of the people. This is one of the reasons I like Buchanan.

Since he took office in 2001, Bush said in Tucson, Ariz., U.S. border agents have apprehended and sent home 4.5 million illegal aliens, "including more than 350,000 with criminal records."

Astonishing. That is 75,000 criminals a year, 200 felons a day, for the last five years, trying to break into our country to rape, rob and kill, and molest our children. Of the millions of illegals who succeeded in breaking in on Bush's watch, how many came to rape, rob and murder, like John Lee Malvo, the Beltway sniper?

This is a national crisis, an existential crisis. But after five years of ignoring it, and now finally addressing it, what did Bush say in Tucson? I can't defend the border if you won't give me a guest worker program. Said Bush, "[W]e will not be able to effectively enforce our immigration laws until we create a temporary worker program."

BS-- Hispanics want boarders closed more and any other racial group ( they are low income competing with illegals for jobs). The real deal is - Niether can risk pissing off the power elite who fund the given candiidates. It's no accident there is a huge gap between how our political leaders vote on immigration, trade and outsourceing from what the public wants. It's the opposite and they are paid to to vote that way by powerful intrests whom reap trilions from these positions.

Well isnt this nice.

This is one issue I will blast Bush on until the cows come home. Dont cry about guest worker visa's. Put the damn military on the border and keep these people out. One day 9-11 will happen again but worse due to this border situation.

Why's that? If open trade is good them open borders are even better for the consumer and business.

For once I totally agree,

In the long run you would be correct. We still have to deal with the short term to see the long term however. In that short term, much mayhem will happen, and most of it will not be to the liking of most anyone except the new minimum wage underclass. Sure in the long run they will then want what we today ALREADY have in-place and from there it will progress.

Took all of 3 posts for someone to politicize the issue.

There have been numerous administrations that have done nothing. I know you love to bash Bush but you can't lay this on him.

So he's continuing the fine tradition of doing nothing? Good for him. Think about it for a second, it's completely within the Adminsitration and Congress's power to finally do something about the immigration/border security issue -- I mean they do control the White House and Congress do they not? And soon, majority ideological support in the judiciary. If Bush can't fix this, then who the F can?

Don't lay this on him my ass. I can't believe how low you set the bar sometimes, Pabster.

He can't do anything when the Democrats obstruct everything he puts on the table. Let's face it, Dems can't risk losing Hispanic votes. They've been losing a pretty decent portion to Republicans over the last few elections and any serious action against the problem would completely decimate their "base".

Thanks for your typical liberal diatribe -- you're doing a fine job towing the party line

Both Parties are the problem. You're a Partisan hack. Your comment about 3 posts and it's political is SO typical. This IS a political issue, at the very core. The president has the authority and position to STOP it and won't. He blames the democrats for not giving in on the guest worker program but if he cared about the problem he would fix it REGARDLESS of the POLITICS. He ONLY acted when the minutemen went down there, and the only thing he did was assign 600 more agents to the border for a short time. He's not interested in SOLVING the problem or he would have done it ALREADY, he doesn't need CONGRESS to take action.
