Double post and what does that mean?
Perhaps he means:
If its common knowledge and AMD is racking in the big bucks as a result, then AMD should build two more fabs so that they can be even awesomer.

It's common knowledge among people that care at all about CPUs.

Joe Sixpack buys a computer not a CPU, and often calls the PC case the "hard drive." Joe Sixpack buys a 3+ GHz PC with intel motherboard graphics.

I have a question for all of you AMD people...is it just that Intel Pent D's are bad or just that AMD is a better value. i know the AMD x2's are more expensive than the intel's are at this point. so could someone please elaborate on this??

The PD's are slow, don't OC well, and after you pay the power bill after a year, you could have gotten an Amd with what you would have saved.

Go to the main AnandTech website, click the CPU tab and read the benchmarks.

See how an X2 3800+ for $322 compares to an intel 830D for $323:
X2 3800+
Up to 15% faster in business and encoding, and 6-21% faster in games.

For games, the X2 3800+ at stock speed is actually faster than a $538 intel 840D which costs $216 more.

So yes, the AMD is a better value, and yes the Prescott is a bad design that runs hotter and costs more.

Note: I'm typing this on one of the last good intel CPUs, a 3.2C Northwood. I'll probably recommend intel CPUs again when they start making good ones next year, right now they're a bad choice.

Go back to anandtech.com and to the cpu section and look at every single review they have done and then look at the power consumption and overclocking numbers and then come back to the forum. You could also go to every other website review of the X2 since it came out, with the exception of Toms ;), and get all the same information.

For the person who stated AMD should build more foundries; I would suggest you donate a couple billion dollars and they will get right on that. They do have Fab 36 coming online as we speak so that should make a difference. Right now, their foundry capacity limits them to around 20-30% cpu marketshare simply because they can't make enough cpus.

Common knowledge (even to an Xeon owner :) ), but IMHO I still prefer an intel CPU on an intel chipset. After switching from an AMD / VIA chipset, then to an AMD / Nvidia chipset, finally to an Xeon / Intel (E7505) chipset, there just wasn't a comparison. I know it will never happen, but what I would love to see is an AMD / Intel chipset. That would be nice.

But the truth is, even though I use my machine for rendering animation and video editing, I wouldn't bother with a dual core. The performance increases just aren't worth it.

Xeon in server class... but did you try either of the server class AMD chipsets? I didn't think so.

Then, yes, I did actually. AMD mobo platforms have caught up a lot in three years.

Which server boards did you try? You didn't mention AMD/AMD or AMD/nVidia Pro. I don't think anything is more stable than the Tyan K8W and company.

Of course AMD won. Their CPU's cost noticably more, so of course they'll outperform the Intel chips.

price does not always dictate quality or performance.
look at thermaltake for example :p

Thermaltake gear is ok. Personally, I don't have any, just because i find other things are better value for money.
