CNC Routers

I recall seeing a post a couple of years ago about someone building a do-it-yourself CNC router (computer controlled woodwork detailing machine).

Anyone know anything about this? I'm looking for a project, and I'd love to put a few months into building one of these things.

I've thought about it off and on. I was thinking about trying a CNC dremel maybe - bit more compact, less torque etc. for experimenting with. In fact I bought a couple of lead screw stepper motors units on eBay, but haven't found time to play with it yet.

Woodworking at Home DVD Magazine has been doing a project on one. I'm not sure of the staus, but look here and maybe email Chris Dehut if you have questions.

Love to build one myself, keep us posted if you build one!!

Skypilot,

I just saw a demo on this one. It comes in a "machine only" version where you add the electronics and motors. Very nice!

I am a CNC Programmer / Machinist, I may be able to help you out if you have any questions. I don't know everything, but I may be worth a shot.

We have a 5x10 CNC at work that's ready for my use at any time 🙂. It sure made modding my case a couple of years ago really, really easy.
