so just installed xp, got it up and running and installed command and conquer general zero hour. I start the game, works perfect running on virtual cd. (alchol52%). i usually play online, so i dl the update. the game restarts and after showing the logo i get this:

you have encountered a serious error. Serious errors can be caused by many things included viruses, overheated hardware, and hardware that does not meet the minimum specifications for the game. Please visit the forums at www.generals.ea.com for suggested courses of action or consult your manual for Technical support contact information

my system is WAY over the reccomended. I KNOW its not overheating, and i KNOW its not a virus casue i just reinstalled. i also tried multiple reboots after the update, still no luck.

questions:

will usuing the actual cd or having a virtual drive make any differance?
is my zonealarm getting in the way? i hit accept for everything generals asked.
I had this same error before i reinstalled xp, and somehow it just magically worked itself out. This was after a restart though.

also- should i actually visit the generals forums?

Hey! I just reloaded the same game a few days ago and I keep getting the exact same error. I thought it was my CD that perhaps had a scratch that interferred with the game loading.

Now I find another person having the same issue. The thing is I didn't patch the game because I don't play online. I never had this issue before.

Visit the generals forum and see what they say.

I'm not having any problems with windows xp sp2. I'm playing with the most recent patches - no issues. Not using any virtual drives...

you2, When I installed Zero Hour the first time I had absolutely no issues and I didn't patch. This time, after reinstalling, I have the same issue as trOver but he patched this time as I didn't. I'll have to give the patches a try.
