CnC generals not detecting directx

hey guys. My problem is whenever i try to open generals or zero hour, it says i dont' have directx installed even though i do. Battlefield 1942 and my other games run properly so i don't get whats going on.
 
Check "dxdiag" in the run command, and just check to make sure you have the right version installed (DirectX 9.0c).

Also the right version should be on the Generals CD anyway, or you can just download the latest version. This is if you havent already got the latest version installed.
