So I bought a Audigy Platinum eX used then some Logitech X-530s. I'm pretty pleased with both.
I never knew that mp3s were only stereo sound, since for so long my ACS54 4.1 set were hosed and the 2 rear speakers wouldn't play a thing unless they were NOT plugged in (weird huh). By having them plugged into the sub but not into Surround In on my sound card, the same stereo sound played through all 4 speakers. Then I read how mp3s don't play through all 5 speakers on the X530s unless you use something to upmix. Luckily I ended up with the Audigy which I softmodded to an Audigy 2 ZS, and now have CMSS and CMSS2.
It says CMSS1 is ideal for mp3s, but when turning it on it seems the sound is way too low and not rich and full (hardly any bass and whatnot, but not only lows, it just seems lacking all around). So I like CMSS2 for upmixing mp3s as well as any videos. Plus I'd imagine it'd be nice for old games that only have stereo sound.
But then when I go to play games like BF2 or Source-engine games, I don't want CMSS on since they have very nice 5.1 surround sound already. Sometimes I forget to switch back.
I generally leave CMSS off since I play more games then listen to stuff, plus I can deal with just the sub and two front speakers for music at times, but ideally, if I loaded Winamp or something, could it turn CMSS2 on automatically?
I use the Creative EAX Console to enable CMSS. Again, I'm using all software from the Audigy 2 ZS install CD. Any ideas? Surely other people are in the same situation!
